Pedals in carry-on luggage?

Anyone have security issues with pedals and shoes in their carry-on bags at the airport?

I never have had an issue as I have carried my pedals and shoes on with with me for the last 6 years. I usually have them in an outside pocket in case they want to check them out.

I just did this 2 days ago and had no problems. I flew out of KC and informed the screeners that I had the pedals (still in the box) and shoes before it went into the x-ray machine.

Good luck.

Don’t see why it would be a problem. You may get a strange look from the guy working the X-Ray monitor and they may ask you what they are or oull them out and ask you some questions, but it should not be a big deal.

You can probably get away with pedals, but check the pedal wrench.

I was stopped and was going to have hand them over, but thank goodness another security agent knew what they were and had seen me wheel my bike case in. I did get selected to have all carry ons searched as a result. No big deal in the end, but it would have really sucked not to have my pedals!

Was asked what the square metal things were, I said pedals and they didn’t even check. I guess the helmet was a dead giveaway.

And like Khai said, check the pedal wrench. They will take that as a weapon.

I didn’t have problems taking my cleated shoes and helmet in my carry on. The TSA officer did stop at my bag and scowl at his screen through. Interesting to watch them try to figure out what in the world you have in your bag. They have to make some pretty quick decisions!

Not a problem I suppose but they made me unload everything so they could see what I had. It was also difficult explaining the pedal wrench.

It really depends on the agent…most of the time it is fine, but I have been told at least once to check my bags on account of the pedals.

I had a real scare as the security agent was checking out the pedals for at least two minutes. No problem with the shoes or helmet, but they took the multi-tool.

I was really sweating about the pedals as I was late for the flight and with no time to quibble - but they were DA pedals. Thankfully he finally let them go.

I vowed I would check them next time and just pray the luggage wasn’t lost

Never had a problem. Although i’ve also somehow brought my pocket knife through security more than once without knowing. I had left it in my backpack after a camping trip without knowing and went through quite a few checkpoints. Didn’t get caught.
