Has anyone tried any of their cycling shoes? Or their tri-specific shoes? Any thoughts? How is the sizing? thanks
I just purchased some Vapors ('03’s on closeout) as my first pair of cycling shoes, so take this with a grain of salt. I have read some reviews that the top of the opening digs into your skin, but that’s not a problem. They are well vented right now (look like a neon blue mesh slip-on slipper) which is a bit cold at the moment but will be great in the NM summertime.
As far as fit, I thought they felt great. They seem pretty wide in the toebox which I like since I have Monkey toe (family name for Morton’s toe, the longer second toe) which led to me wearing orthotics. Since I wear othrotics, it essentially makes my foot taller. One of the best ways to deal with this is wide shoes, but you don’t want loose cycling shoes. So, the wide toebox gives me that room for orthos without compromising the fit in the back of my foot.
Again, my longest ride has consisted of 45 minutes, so I may not be the harshest reviewer. But I like them, they feel like Merrel Mocs.
I’ve been riding PI vortex shoes for about a year as my only pair of shoes. I think that for the price I got them for (around $85) they were tough to beat. I tried on other shoes, and the only other ones I would have gotten is the Shimano TR-01 tri shoes. That said, for half the price, I’m very happy with the PIs. I initially always wore them with socks, but half-way through the season, started riding sockless with no problems except for stinky shoes (corrected with powder). I’ve done many long rides and several races with them with no issues. My wife has the same kind and likes them as well. Sizing is standard European.
I have a pair of Vapors as well. I recommend that you order a little on the big side. Great shoe, I bet the tri version will be nice as well.
