Peanut Butter

I was in the grocery store the other day and I faced a choice. Go with the store brand, all natural, peanuts only peanut butter, or go with Skippy Creamy. I didn’t feel like stirring the jar of PB, so I went with the Skippy (mistake #1). I made my PBJ sandwich, and when I tasted it (mistake #2) something didn’t taste right to me. So I looked at the list of the ingredients in Skippy peanut butter (mistake #3).

I think I am traumatized for life.

Any nuts in there?

I always use Kraft peanut butter. I will try the naturals, cheaper stuff, etc, but keep going back to the teddy bears for their taste. I do not look at the ingredients (I know BAD!!!) for the main reason I cannot even pronounce most of the stuff and if I understand it I would be turned off everything.

The way I look at it, I am going to enjoy what I eat, cause that’s what it is all about!!!

Now for ice cream topping, the Reese peanut butter shell kicks ass;)

After tasting that stuff, I expected to find peanuts at the 2nd or 3rd ingredient, if that. Surprisingly, they were the first ingredient. But it sure didn’t taste that way.

Yuck.

Incidentally, I also looked at the ingredient list for the Honey Roasted Peanuts I picked up. Amazing how much stuff they can put in Honey Roasted Peanuts that is neither honey nor peanuts.

I have some co-workers who spend most of the day eating pack-after-pack of those little 100 calorie snack bags of cookies. Ya know…to help them lose weight. Stuff like Chips Ahoy, Oreos, etc.

If you ever have some time to kill at the store, spend an hour or two reading the ingredients on those bad boys!!

People can be so frickin’ stupid…

I’m trying to convince the wife that those are only 100 calories because there’s literaly only 0.81 oz of food.
0.81 oz of hot fudge sundae probably only has 100 calories too.

I also liked the Michel0b Ultra that claimed fewer calories than other light beers…they came in 10 oz cans!

there’s a reason why the factory installed peanut butter doesn’t need to be stirred, and it has a lot to do with corn and chemicals

and Cheney fits in here some where as well

Whenever I want to back off on my peanut butter cravings I switch to Almond butter, tastes so good but it is so very expensive.

Michelob Ultra does have fewer calories and carbs than other beers…not just in the 10oz can size.

However, the real question is, where do you live that you can find the 10oz cans? The eastern shore of Maryland? Southern Maryland? There aren’t many places Anheuiser-Busch ships those babies to.

I’m not a big fan of the put-in-the-frig, stir natural peanut butter and also cringe when I read the ingredients of the branded peanut butters (thank you Lauren – fitnesscoach – for teaching me that:). I buy the “O” Organic brand of peanut butter sold by Safeway. It doesn’t need to be refrigerated or stirred, but it also doesn’t have all the bad stuff. It’s probably not as good as the all natural, but it’s not as bad as the other brands. I don’t know if they have Safeways where you are, but if they do, I’d check it out.

No Safeway up here, unfortunately. I love the taste of the stick-a-knife-and-stir PB, and there is no difference in taste between the store brand and the more expensive ‘organic label’ brands. But I always end up making a mess on the counter or spilling some peanut oil onto the side of the jar.

This was 4 or 5 years ago, and somewhere in rural NC. Picture 5 guys sitting around a tailgate, looking at our beers, wondering why they were going down so easy.

I would never buy the stuff anyway. The only beer I buy…well…let’s just say…you can’t see thru it.

I knew it had to be someplace rural.

I like the idea of the 10oz can. The bottom is still cold when you get to it. And if you are in the habit of drinking a certain number of beers, and you drink that number of 10oz’ers you feel a little better in the morning.

Now this the kind of thread I like to see!

wait. let’s back this up.

are you saying that even though i’m actually eating the correction portion of cookies by buying them in those little snackie packs; that i’m actually not going to loose weight if i eat 10 of those packs a day?
what if i cut out all other foods, and those teeny tiny snack packs are my only foods?

the weight watchers points system shows me at only 9 points if i do that, so i thought it was ok…

Um, there isn’t any ice cream left for the Shell topping :frowning:

What are ya going to do about it?

Another one I have seen (on ice cream) is “Only 4 NET Carbs.”

Jif appears to be worse than Skippy (at least worse than Canuck Skippy).

Ingredients (with my smart assed comments in parentheses):

Freshly roasted peanuts (in a jar that’s been sitting on a shelf for god knows how long, and is good for over a year!!)
soybean oil (I know what that is)
maltodextrin (wtf is maltodextrin??)
icing sugar (in peanut butter??)
hydrogenated vegetable oil (I get the vegetable oil part, but how does one hydrogenate something).
salt (OK, I know what that is)

I like to use the make-your-own PB/almondbutter/ cashew butter machine at the produce store. It is expensive but it does not separate out like the jarred natural PB.

This stuff is SOOOO tasty! Ingredients: Almonds, Evaporated Cane Juice, Palm Oil, Sea Salt. It only has 1.5g of sat fat. As a bonus, they sponsor the big 10K and 1/2 marathon races out here. Whole Foods carries it but it’s a bit (ok, a lot) pricey. Check it out www.barneybutter.com I have no affiliation with them whatsoever…it’s just good stuff.

I prefer the Skippy Natural Peanut Butter
.
