ALMOND BUTTER IS AWESOME!!! ![]()
Great info everyone. I have switched to Almond butter in my smoothies. It works well with bananas. You just can’t replace PB & J. It is a beauty.
Whatever you do, don’t try sunflower seed butter. Horrible! Ruined a perfectly good bowl of oatmeal.
No, Tahini Butter is the worst.
I expected a vague “peanut butter” type taste and it was awful.
I even tried to follow a cookie recipe. Even with all the sugar they recommended it was still labeled “sand cookies” by the spouse. The dogs like them though ![]()
I guess the rest gets made into hummus when I get the energy to combine all the ingredients.
X2 as with just about all foods (whole foods) the more variety the better. it is much better to eat some of both than just one or the other.
Which is better or worse for you? or is it personal taste haha
Thoughts?
I’m sure you know this, but peanuts are not nuts, they’re legumes, like soy beans. They get “nutty” when roasted, as they are in peanut butter. Have you ever tried raw peanut butter? Different animal. Likewise, almond butter tastes vastly different depending on whether or not the nuts are roasted prior to grinding them into butter; it’s pretty bland unroasted.
Peanut butter is highly addictive, as is evidenced by previous posts, and by my own personal experience. Its addictive nature may be the result of some clever genetic manipulation, or just skilled crossbreeding over the years by the Peanut Consortium, but peanuts, and hence peanut butter are harder to quit than cigarettes, especially when in Peanut Butter Cups - BEWARE!
I’ve been on an almond butter kick, but I like both.
Try stirring a teaspoon into oatmeal. Yum!
Aflatoxin is bad news and is often present in peanuts and almonds.
If you have Type O blood, peanuts may bother you. A or B blood no problem, apparently. If you believe in that shite (I do, not sure why).
Raw almond butter is almost as good as organic chocolate hazelnut spread… but not quite.
I heard on NPR most “raw” almond butter in the US is treated to avoid the toxin. But in general the fatty acids are better quality in “raw” nut butters than in roasted. I’ve never seen raw peanut butter for sale in the US. So this gives the preference to raw almond butter, which tastes better anyway!
My brain just blew up trying to figure out if an almond is a nut. Seems that it is a nut in the same sense that a peanut is a nut (culinary terms) but is not a TRUE nut.

You got it backwards. Almond = nut. Peanut = legume. Pantelones = TRUE nut. ![]()
Wow you guys are in my head–I’m heading over to the natural food store this morning for some almond butter.
I’ve never had almond butter. This morning breakfast was a tangerine, a bowl of canteloupe with yogurt, and a ww bagel with peanut butter. PEANUT butter mmmm.
My crazy metabolism, all I did is run 6 mi ![]()
i’ve been a big fan of dr. andrew weil for years and i know he isn’t a fan of peanuts or peanut butter but rather almond butter, especially raw almond butter. we rarely keep PB at home for the reasons he mentions mostly due to the carcinogen aflatoxin not to mention possibly creating some type of allergy from over consumption (not sure on the amount or frequency it takes to become allergic). i reallly found this interesting as it point that Consumers Uninon did a study on PB and the lowest amounts of aflotoxin were found in the big supermarket brands such as Peter Pan, Jif and Skippy. the highest levels were found in peanut butter ground fresh in health food stores. anyway, here is the brief article. obvoiously we need to stay away from the trans fats in these brands also.
