PC ? for Frank and others

Hey all PC’ers:

Had a friend fo mine (who is very good at bike maintenance - its what he does) - retap my PC’s as I had stripped the pedal. He cleaned up some grime that had gotten inside (Frank’s suggestion after he inspected them at WF). Anyway - they are back on my bike - and the non-drive side crank arm can wiggle about 1/16 inch. The gold crank arm can slide in and out on the sheath (best way I can describe it). Before you screw the dust cap on - you can slide the crank arm off and check out the bearings inside. It doesn’t move much but I noticed as I started pedaling and it took my brain a few minutes to remember how to PC (after 1 race on regular cranks and a couple 20-30 min spins pre-race). If I get off my bike - spin the crank and yank on it - it moves. I checked the dust cap - nice and tight - checked the crank bolt - nice and tight. Anybody else experience this - is it normal?

Dave

up to 1 or 2 mm lateral movement is normal. Means there is room for everything to spin smoothly but not too much room for stuff to get inside.

Frank

that happened to me as well.
it’s not the crankbolt, it’s the silver cover. you’ll have to loosen the little allen bolt that keeps the dust cap from coming off when you don’t want it to. push the crank medially toward the bottom bracket, then tighten the silver dust cover on (one side is reverse threaded). and then tighten the allen bolt. should work.
