yo. is it just me or do those pbo spokes on the new tillium spinergies seem like they would kinda be the antithesis of what what a fella wants in an aero wheel? round and fat?
yup…
Which puts me in a conundrum. My team has a team discount deal with Spinergy where I can get the Tiliums for egad $$ off, something like half price. I love my Xaero lites for training. But you both have pointed out a HUGE ? in my mind. Those damn spokes, while extremely comfortable, just aren’t aero, no matter how much marketing hype they throw at us. Then again, Larsen rides PBO spokes to course records. Yeah, his motor is great, but the wheels sure aren’t handicapping him much.
I guess my best bet is to troll around on Ebay for some H3s, my favorite aero wheel, hands down.
Totally. There was a study that said that Spinergy’s old Spox wheels were about the least aero wheels around (even worse than 32 spoke Mavic Opens). Spinergy’s new pbo wheels may be better because they have fewer spokes and a slimmer hub but I’m sure they’re still not great. I have a pair of Spox that I like a lot for training (cheap, light, comfortable, relatively trouble free) but when you buy them you’re pretty much resigning yourself to having (at least) two wheelsets.
On the plus side, the Tillium will probably be the best cyclocross wheel on the planet…
I don’t ride the Xaero Lites because they are aero…I ride them because they are comfortable. Comfort=more riding=better engine.

Let’s don’t forget about Storming Norman, he rides Spinergy Xaero wheels as well.
