Paula Findlay GREAT race recap

But if you decide to @triathlete3002 be sure to allow an estimated 8 hours (481 minutes) and remember: it’s the journey with its twists, turns and cul-de-sacs, not the destination which is valuable.

Spoiler: Apparently it’s going to end exactly where it began.

Paula has had a consistent year in triathlon and an incredible season out of triathlon.

She got married, became an aunt and at times had the right balance between work and family. What she has achieved the last 15 ish years is phenomenal.

6th at Taupo in an incredibly stacked field is a very good result. Top 10 in the inaugural T100 series is a very good result.

But that is different ,sanders wants the trolls , polarisation is part of the business plan.
That is not the case with the ttl

A known troll/hater baited you into writing something, er, silly. Care to reconsider…

I loved the video. I was never the sort of fan that watches every TTL video; they seemed a bit vanilla to me. But now I appreciate how good this race recap really is, and a big part of it is the authenticity.

Regardless of content, which is imho mostly very rich, one can appreciate the TTL videos for their intrinsic artistic quality.

Paula is one of my favorite female athletes. She keeps it real. She doesn’t only present those winning moments like some do on social media, but lays out the ups and downs of being a top professional. Very relatable.

This is why I’m a big fan as well. She isn’t a influencer like others, she’s real.

Sure I will re-consider…

As a fellow Canadian, I am one of her biggest fans and love her podcasts and YT videos. I am simply stating the feeling I got sometime watching or listening to her. Maybe “entitled” is the wrong word, but she does seem to be a bit negative at times. Perhaps that’s what makes her more relatable because she does comes across more vulnerable then a lot of other pro athletes.

Well Paula sees all you assholes above.

And sounds like a 2025 140.6 win is on the cards for next year.

She also has a positive fan base on here as well, so not everyone is an asshole. But I agree there are some asshole comments on here that they wouldn’t say to Lionel!

I just feel like Paula has the mindset of an elite athlete – not fully happy unless she gets the W &, even then, I’m sure she would pick it apart. We applaud men for having that sort of drive. I think some want her to be more “fun”, or whatever, but her focus makes her a great follow & athlete. I didn’t realize there were a bunch of negative comments on here that got to her. We should be better. I don’t see her as entitled at all. My earlier comment in this thread is that she’s too hard on herself. A lot of good athletes are like that. The reality is that she puts a lot of great content out to the world & the podcast is really helpful for age groupers. I see her giving back to the sport. Unsure where the negative vibes are coming in.

She is probably the only realistic athlete out thete. It seems she has accepted knibb is unbeatable , just happy to reach podium. She needs to go back to itu to get on this new generation of athletes heels

I think most of the women have accepted that fact for now. Even Kat has said many times we are racing for 2nd, although she has also put a training plan to beat her one day. she knows it has to be done by bettering her bike, she now has the run to compete with her if they are close in T2. At least that is what Knibb wants them to believe…(-;

Of course there are several that think they have a crack if they can be closer off the bike, but beating the US time trial champ or even getting close is a big ask, especially since she is also an off the front swimmer in a small elite pack…

Excellent interview with Jack Kelly (who kept it to an hour). Snippets:

  • Paula did 5’ at 310 watts during the Shootout in Tucson,
  • cranks out 6x3’ reps at 320 watts,
  • sucks at riding a TT bike on technical courses,
  • got the PTO to sign a T100 contract with her that doesn’t stipulate that she has to do Singapore - the reason being that she has to stay in the U.S. pending her green card application, which likely won’t be processed before April/May. This was planned all along; she applied on her return from Taupo in December at the first opportunity (after getting married to a U.S. citizen).

From watching the TTL videos, I suspect Paula is a bigtime introvert and doing the videos is taking her way out of her comfort zone. Despite this, she does them, and I am thankful that her and Eric allow us a glimpse of pro triathlon life. It’s great content, and I am sure it takes a lot of work.

You missed the part where she’s planning on doing Ironman Lake Placid.

Well, I wasn’t aiming to comprehensively summarise the interview. And her IM plan has been known for some time, so I didn’t even think about it when choosing what to highlight. Yes, there’s more!

Both Findlay and Kelly mentioned “Las Vegas” as a race before Vancouver.
Maybe they both meant San Francisco.
