Paul Amey's 70.3 ride

So, I’m sorry if this has already been discussed but what is the deal? No aero tubing at all? No aero wheels (well, in comparison to Leito/Crowie’s full disc)? Is this guy just a weight weenie?

vegas was a hilly course. perhaps he made that call.

or perhaps it was a sponsorship, or mechanical issue?

Suplicy makes a pretty sweet tri bike, so I’m thinking it was a personal preference thing, thinking the hills were gonna be tough.

maybe it’s because he likes his chain falling off?
and shifters upside down?

I think the chain is going to be a bigger problem than the lack of an airfoil - at least on the uphills.

He had just been changing a flat and rolled in, and wanted to get the thing racked and sorted, and just rolled the thing in front of the camera, chain down, to get the shot done.

Paul has always been of the keep-it-simple-stupid theory, which I dig about the guy. He’s an absolute blue collar hustler.

I’ll agree with Jay, Paul is a pure blue collar hustler. I won’t answer for him, but I will say that he put some good, quality thought into choosing that bike setup. I’m pretty sure he first thought of the setup for his race in St. George for 2010, and kept it from there (minus a few drag race flat courses). Hit him up on twitter and ask @paulamey . And BONUS! if you get to hear him tell you in his kiwi/aussie/british/hollywood accent.
