I met Patrick Evoe a couple years ago after IM Arizona with the gang from Jack and Adams and other Austin folks. Then he was an age grouper with very impressive results. Today though he really impressed my with a 5th place at IM Louisville, after an awesome bike and a great run.
How about this nugget - Five years ago he was 40 pounds overweight and had zero athletic background. He started running with a group at work and couldn’t hold a 9:30 pace for more than a mile…
He’s a haaaaaaaaaaaard workin mo-fo. He deserves the result. He did great.
Austinite Kevin Burnette now with Velonews actually mentioned that to me last night. It is pretty amazing to come from nowhere in 4 years to win the Steelhead Tri and finish 5th in an Ironman.
Pat’s a really cool guy and an even better athlete! Living down here in Tejas…we bump into each other from time to time and I’m always intrigued with what he’s doing and where he’s headed. Last time I spoke with him…he had his mind set on racing strong in IM Florida. I have a feeling IM Kentucky was just a warm-up for Florida. With his cycling and run pedigree…we could watch him become a real contender in Panama City!
I wonder what happend in the water yesterday? I know he can swim faster than that. Maybe he opted for a backstroke downstream :-).
I’ve never posted on ST before, but I just wanted to thank all of you for the kind words and support. Sunday was an amazing experience and I couldn’t have been happier with the outcome. What has made this ever more meaningful is how positive and supportive everyone has been: my family, friends, sponsors, and people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting along the way. Thank you, I really appreciate it.
way to go Pat! awesome race, congratulations! (you would have been 4th if you were running all the way to the top of Wilke - old school style! ha ha)

Hey Pat – Congratulations, you really had a great race. (By the way, I am not Skooch. I was your lead runner escort – this is my husband’s ST sign in. He was reading and told me you’d posted.) It was a real privilege for this tri newbie to be able to see your outstanding performance on that run. I don’t know that I can convey to everyone else how unique an experience it is to see an elite athlete performing at that level. No one other than other elite athletes typically get to see that. Impressive performance and great support from the crowd – you’ve got it all. Good luck in your future races!
so happy to see you healthy and rocking after the hard time in AZ… keep the good work!!! i hope to have the chance to go back to austin and do a few more rides with you guys! looking forward to see you at a race!
