Parlee Debuts Disc Brake Tri Bike

http://lavamagazine.com/parlee-cycles-debuts-new-signature-bike/

I’ll embed some photos in a few minutes. Looks like they took a stab at shielding the discs with the rear brake disc particularly well executed. I’m surprised nobody has tried placing the caliper at the front of the fork and then using a plastic cover to partially shield and streamline the brake disc.

Prediction: Cannondale’s next tri bike will use disc brakes and a carbon “righty” fork along with asymmetrical tube shapes similar to QR’s “shift”.

And so it begins…

Looks fine to me.

The disc brakes are bad enough, but that geo looks truly awful. Another short and tall for those who don’t care about getting aero…

It’s Parlee. They do custom bikes so you can get a long and low geometry.

So I can pay a crap-ton to get this to fit? I suppose it being slower than a P2C is just a bonus… where do I sign?

Meh. It’s also Parlee. They have a high-dollar, high-status reputation tied to the name.

Why pay for ENVE when Flo gets your similar performance? Because it’s f’n ENVE.

Why buy a BMW when a Honda gets you around town? Because it’s f’n BMW.

The custom geometry thing is pretty cool if you need or want it. Just like people are willing to pay for a custom English steel tubed TT bike. Why? Because it’s f’n English.

Rant over, kudos to Parlee for taking the leap forward in shrouding disc brakes. (Debate aside whether disc breaks belong in triathlon)

Just when I thought Parlee couldn’t make any worse of a choice with their TT brakes
.

Nice eyeball measurements. Just compared the stack & reach on the M to my Trek Gen 1 M SC 7.2 and it has the same reach and 12 mm lower stack, and the Trek would be considered a middle of the road frame in terms of fit.

Middle of the road = short and tall

Given you’ve apparently had a chance to already test this bike in the wind tunnel, can you pass along your data?

I think storage and hydration integration should be perfected before we worry about useless disc brakes on a tri bike. This is not a good first impression of things to come if this bike is the direction we are heading. Maybe someone else will make it look better and have a little more functional characteristics.

I don’t get it…didn’t all the tri associations other than WTC ban disc brakes for next year??
I know here in Canada we were basically given a warning this season, and told they will not be allowed next year…

If there’s one thing I want it’s more surface area behind the steering axis. Who cares about handling?

Can’t get position = slower

Even if I could I highly doubt this monstrosity performs better than adequate in any yaw angle I’ll see.

Of course I’d take a P2C over 95% of new bikes and a P4 over 100% of them.

Where did you find the geometry?

P2C > Felt IA?

And I’m going to just leave this here:

Mechanical disks on this too. I don’t know of a tri hydraulic lever for disc. (Magura is for rim brakes). So unlike Magura, routing is limited by cable housing.

Not sure I get this one.

Awesome, thanks!
