I just got that stand to replace the clamp-style stand I had. While I don’t own a mountain bike right now, I’d like to be able to help friends work on theirs. While sites like Topeak clearly list their compatibility with MTBs, I can’t find anything anywhere about compatibility of the stand with MTB 15 mm or 20 mm axles (QR and/or thru axle). Does anybody here know?
Also, has anyone rigged a decent tool tray attached to the main arm?
To be honest I haven’t put my MTB on the stand since I got it (the stand) in the spring. I don’t think it should be an issue at all. If no one chimes in with a definitive answer, just PM me and I’ll toss it on the stand when I get home and let you know.
the “QR -Mount” thing is no different than a standard roof-rack mount (one is wider than the other for the rear-dropout). I havent rigged a tool tray to mine
Ugh. Damn Park Tools. If Topeak can make a stand that supports all of them, comes with a bag and is lighter, for $60-$100 less (before spending $100 in bag and adapters for the PRS-21), why can’t they?! http://www.topeak.com/products/Repair-Stands/prepstandrace
I am sure the Topeak has plastic that the Park Tools does not have. But still.
My “every day” stand is a standard clamp mount stand from feedback sports (actually I think they were called something different when I got the stand). That stand is so much better made its not even comparable to the PRS-21. The only reason that I got the Park is that I didn’t want to clamp to aero, carbon tubes…
did you ditch your old stand? for MTBs a standard clamp stand works well on the seatpost, I really dont like the “tray-type” stand, they just seem cumbersome.

I was curious about this as I’ve never heard of Feedback Sports - then I Googled it and saw that Ultimate has apparently re-branded. Those stands are awesome. The Pro-Elite head is really nice to work with. I might consider a tray stand if I had a Shiv or something like that where I was concerned about clamping the frame, but there safe ways to grab by the seatpost, especially if you use a rag. I clamp my metal bikes by the seatpost as well whenever possible.
