I don’t know how many of you saw that finish on Versus but what an amazing finish by Luis León Sánchez I can not believe that he was able to hold off the not only the whole field but both Monfort and Barredo the last 500 meters, I can’t even imagine the pain he was probably in. WOW! What a HTFU! moment.
I was watching that too. I said to myself a hundred times he’s going to get caught. I don’t know how it didn’t happen.
That was maybe the most insanely exciting finishes I have seen in a bike racing in a long time. Considering the main field reeled in the break essentially getting within 7 seconds of that break group when he shot of the front with 3k to go I think. He was descending like a motorcycle racer almost dragging his knees through those turns. Then he hold them off up that little hill before all the turns into the finish straight, then still manages to hold off on the flat straight with 2 guys right on his wheel and the peleton seconds behind them. That was as crazy of a 3k effort you will ever see on a bike. Truely a clinic in solo breaks 101.
No kidding, he was descending like a bat out of hell. What a huge effort, he totally deserved that win today.
