Paralympic cyclist regains wlaking

Does seem like there was something shady going on. I hope there wasn’t, but that’s looking decreasingly likely.

So she spent 14 yrs in a wheelchair as a ruse so she could compete in handcycle events? Makes no sense to me.

Let’s say it was all a lie. Moral standards notwithstanding, why couldn’t she keep the wins in the handcycle races? She obviously competed and won. Does the use of your legs aid you in any way in handcycling?

Makes no sese to me, either. I am, however, troubled by the mention of people having seen her walking and standing during her tenure as a handcyclist. And the fact that there was apparently no muscle atrophy in her legs after so much time having not used them.

The lying and her ineleigibility are two different things. If she lied, she’s amoral and dishonest. I don’t see a reason, however, why she shouldn’t keep the award if you’re basing it solely on her having competed and won–she did both of those things. But the governing body of handcycling may have rules about honor that would strip her of the medals, nonetheless.

She was never supposed to walk again after contracting muscular dystrophy and losing the use of her legs at 14. At age 24 she was expected to die after getting hit by a car while training in her wheelchair, an accident that left her in a coma with a spinal cord injury.
But after a collision with a cyclist last year, she began to feel a tingling in her legs while in hospital. And last July, at age 25, she walked for the first time in 11 years.

Cousin Eddie: “She falls down a well, her eyes go cross. She gets kicked by a mule. They go back. I don’t know.”

Sounds like a good trade to me. Walking for medals?

People take drugs so they can win their age group at local triathlons. You don’t think someone would do this to go to the paraolympics?
