Pam Reed runs 301 miles nonstop

I was surprised that no one had mentioned this on the forum:

Sports Illustrated had a brief article on it and Pam said that when Dean Karnazes announced in Runner’s World that he wanted to be the first person to break 300 miles she was motivated to beat him to it.

I don’t think I could even stay awake for 80 hours let alone cover 300 miles,

Scott

NONSTOP?!?! No potty breaks? Tough woman. Wouldn’t wanna mess with her.

I believe potty breaks are allowed
.

And I thought Triathletes were crazy. IMO that it is pretty stupid to run that kind of distance. Whats the point. Maybe someone should go for 1000 miles straight.

A lot of people would say that about swimming, then biking, then running, all to end up in the same place you started.

Call me picky, but 16:00/mile isn’t “running”, is it?

Did you see the related story? Headline: Experts: 300-mile run not for us all “The 300-mile run of Tucsonan Pam Reed is a marvelous feat but not a model for the rest of us to follow, a local fitness expert cautions.”

I’m sure glad that I read that story. I was going to go for a 300 miler this weekend, but I think I’ll stay in and watch golf on TV instead.

Nope.

I read that and for some reason, it struck me as a shitty (but, of course, completely fair) thing to do. Dean beat her last year in Badwater, so she one ups his 300 mile record. That’ll teach him to announce his plans in advance. I think her chances of beating Dean in Badwater ever again are slim to none.

That all said, these people are a totally different breed of runner.

Now THAT’S impressive. A mind-boggling feat of endurance, physical and mental. A tad more difficult than the silly rich dude who made a big deal about flying around the world nonstop. Which my fat Uncle Harry could probably do.

I talked to Pam Reed race morning at IMAZ. She was in the transition bag area. She told me that she may just do the swim, she wasn’t sure…I was curious if she finished and after checking I don’t even see her name on the participants list!?!

We will see them go head to head in June at the Western States 100. Should be fun to watch.

Dave

I would guess they both have a decent base.
