The winter/spring weekends are looking kind of busy but I saw an opening for the weekend of March 7/8th, so here’s the deal:
We’ll pick a date based on response, either Saturday or Sunday.
There will be three events: The Challenge, The Ultimate Challenge and the Combined Challenge.
**The Challenge: **we’ll meet at the bottom at the taco shop/general store at 9am and do a mass start, self timed climb up to the stop sign at the top, 11.4 miles.
(if someone wants to volunteer to time, take pictures etc, even better)
**The Ultimate Challenge: **we’ll park and meet at the top at Mother’s Restaurant at 8am, ride down to the bottom to meet everyone else that are just doing “The Challenge”. Do the ride to the top, transition and then run the 9 miles roundtrip to the Observatory and back. Keep in mind that the run will be at about 4500ft elevation and is hilly but not straight up like the Palomar climb.
**The Combined Challenge: **two weeks later is FISTapalooza at Slowman’s so we can do a climb up Dan’s little 10 mile climb and combine your Palomar time with your time from the climb at Dan’s to get your combined twin climb time.
Entry Fee: none
Awards: bragging rights and pride
So who is in? If the consensus is to start a bit later to allow time for people to drive down from the LA area that can also be considered.
Sounds good, except that our little climb is 11.6m not 10m…Not as steep as Palomar, we figure about 10 minutes faster or so. It will be great if we can get a few folks to do both mountains, at the same fitness level. Bjorn and Jonas will be training here then I think, I will see if I can get them up there. Would love to see Bjorn on Palomar with some fitness.
that’s how Dan always screwed with me, telling me it was 10 miles when it is actually 11.6.
That would be great if Bjorn and Jonas could do Palomar, would be nice to see how some tri cycling greats do on it. There is someone here in Oceanside that is probably the fastest short course tri cyclist in the US and he is probably going to do it as well, he just doesn’t know it yet
I’d be interested. Very interested. With a trip up Haleakala under my belt already, the shorter climbs will be a nice change. I’ll get to feel like dying right from the get go, instead of building into it.
I’d also like to know who it is in Oceanside that’s the fastest short course rider in the US…
…now how do I come up with an excuse to be in San Diego on March 7/8th!!!
We have an ST Whiteface Mtn Hillclimb on Jun 19th, but would love to do Palomar some time before my climbing legs retire!!! I think I need to gather up some donations to ship triyoda out your way cause there are not enough studs around here to smack him around properly!
