Ves - 1:31:xx

Martin - 1:31:xx

Coyote P. - 1:33:58

Thanks Gary,

Two more finishing times: Ves and I crossed together at 1:31:xx. We did most of the ride together and he beat me with a lunge at the finish

Martin

okay, and i have a question for mr. technical, mr. equipment guy. was there something missing from your bike as you ascended? care to expand upon that

Hey slowman, are you picking on people’s engines…

Give the guy a break, he rides on flats all the time (at least this is what I read). He just needs to put two telephone books under his front wheel while riding the Computrainer Alpe d’Heuz course and then his muscles will be accustomed to the nose up saddle position while climbing seated

Where’s the time for the little girl?

“Hey slowman, are you picking on people’s engines…”

no way. i would never do that. there’s a specific “thing” gary omitted on his bike, as i understand it.

What is the elevation at the start and finish (ie net). I’d be interested to see how many meters per hour the SoCal studs are doing in the month of Jan !

My Garmin/Motionbased.com tandem showed a start at 1,055’ and finish at 5,236’.

All I can think of regarding Gary is that maybe he wasn’t running Rotorcranks? Was he? Some other inside joke maybe?

According to the results, Austin SDBC had the perfect race, or was he just dogging it in the beginning?

Maybe Slowman will show if we hold the ST TT up Big Pines next time?

So the net elevation is 1266 m for Palomar. Any of you dudes that broke 1:16 were greater than 1000 m per hour. My best time up Alpe D’Huez was 61.52, which worked out to ~1160 m per hour. On Ventoux, I was 1:29.30 for 1609m or 1076. For reference purposes, the Iban Mayo Ventoux record, was sub 55 min. Lance was sub 39 min for the actual Alpe D’huez climb during the TT this year. These guys are acending at ~1700 m per hour !

Of course, Alpe d’huez (7.9%) and Mont Ventoux (7.5%) are both steeper than Palomar (6.7%), so the VAAM will be higher with an equivalent effort. Just the same, those two are probably capable of a 1700 going up Palomar, netting a time right around 45:00.

I guess in theory, the steeper it gets you can climb more vertical meters with less wind resistance, but in practice, the heat the builds up really slows your down. I recall dripping buckets of sweat all the way up (it was around 35 degrees C for both ascents). You are likely correct, that on a cooler day, a steeper course makes it easier to climb vertical meters at a quicker rate.

"there’s a specific “thing” gary omitted on his bike, as i understand it. "

No idea of what you mean.

???

one more time - 1:33:58 - Lightspeed guy with blue day pack - Coyote Pelon.

"Where’s the time for the little girl? "

About an hour.

Well done Garry. Did you use Rotor Cranks?

I think Slowman has you confused with the dude that rode sans seat post. then again maybe not.
