So I don’t remember people continuing to post about John Edwards in such negative ways five months after the failed 2004 election.
I think there are people here seriously suffering from Palin Derangement Syndrome as well as ODS…

It is amazing that normally rational people get such a charge out of other people’s misery.

I have seen very little to lead me to believe that the person is question is normally rational.
no she is just that awful
she gets what shes deserves in the media for being an idiot
bush got what he deserved for being an idiot
obama gets what he deserves for turning socialism into “bail out failed financial institutions and every senators pet project”
IM SURROUNDED BY MORONS

I don’t recall John Edwards *doing *anything in the five months after the failed 2004 election. Palin and her clan? A bit different, wouldn’t you say?
she has been absolutely mulled. don’t know if you remember me getting on here and calling it sexism. i still think it is. there are plenty of men out there doing ate up stuff every single day. yet the media and everyone else just loves to hate Sarah Palin. she is the punching bag du jour.
it was similar with Martha Stewart.
ironic that both women in reality are iconic trailblazers. the men on here would never ever be able to do anything even remotely close to accomplishing what Sarah Palin has. it is jealousy.
Why can’t you see she is the devil? She has more power than anyone in the world and she wants your dead. Her family is fair game because she hates blacks. I think her daughter is a stupid slut because her mom wants to kill fags. We must destroy her. We must get her at all costs.
Isn’t the left supposed to be the side of understanding and compassion?
I can’t think of a single press conference that John Edwards has called since the election, I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
There is also a lot of compassion for John Edwards wife so to drag her down appears to be off limits, a good thing.
If Palin had shielded her family instead of putting them on public display, and if she stopped calling the media and holding public press conferences where she loudly asks the media to leave her alone, it would be a different story.
She is bringing this on herself and could learn a lesson from John Edwards. The lesson is if you stop asking for media attention, people will move on with their lives. If she focussed more on her job and less on complaining about media coverage and how badly she was treated by the McCain camp, she too might find the media goes away, which of course, is not what she REALLY wants.
hmmm…another irony!
**Isn’t the left supposed to be the side of understanding and compassion? **
The left is the side of understanding and compassion in the same way the right is the side of small government and fiscal conservatism.
Seriously…? Edwards has pretty much disappeared, from what I can tell, while Palin is still doing her best to keep herself in the media’s eye. This is the lady who complains about people talking about her kids…meanwhile the kids are selling baby photos to People magazine for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Good grief.
You must be kidding. Edwards has/had a mistress and probably a child out of wedlock.
You guys can spin this anyway you want but kittycat is right. This is sexism at its finest and elitism and snobbery at its worst. The Dems are truly becoming the party of the elites and the snobs. It is pretty sad.
There are a lot of middle class, single moms and other people out there who clearly identify with Sarah Palin. You guys keep denigrating her and/or her supporters in the most disgusting ways. It will come back to bite you one of these days and I for one will enjoy watching it.

That’s what is so sad, that people would vote for someone merely because they identify with them. I want someone more qualified and smarter than myself to be in charge, not some blow hard internet chat geek who happens to be able to run fast. ; ^ )

Ironic trailblazer if you ask me. I disagree with her on almost every single issue. I wouldn’t care if she were a green hermaphodite if her views matched up with mine but as a non-religious, pro choice, antigun, pro gay rights kind of person she scares the dickens out of me. I like to see her mulled, maybe with some cinnamon and one of those oranges that you put cloves in.
I agree on the sexism and I’ve even made a comment about her holding off running for President until her kiddo with Downs and Bristol’s baby get older. But, I’ve reconsidered because there is no reason why her husband can’t take on that responsibility. It is a knee-jerk reaction and cultural training that put women where they are and some women do it themselves.
Hillary was treated the same way but everyone blamed her politics and refused to see the double standard and sexist treatment.
I’m with NC politically and it was her beliefs that scared the hell out of me. I was pretty rough on her and I’d hope that it wasn’t all related to gender but I was raised in a house where women had a very specific role and that can be hard to completely clear out of one’s head. Of course, I broke all those rules in how I live my life, thankfully!
“there is no reason why her husband can’t take on that responsibility”
Except that it would cut into his snowmobilin’ time.
"she is the punching bag du jour…it is jealousy. "
Nobody is jealous of Sarah Palin.
I am. Think her legs are FABULOUUUUUUUUUSS!! (said in my best “Big Gay Al” voice).

Without going into all that I think is wrong with Sarah Palin as Leader of the Free World, I think the unravelling of her persona is largely of her own doing, and here’s why: she didn’t know that she wasn’t ready for the big time. Her ambition superceded good judgement. Not the characteristics I’m looking for in a world leader - especially when you take into consideration her paltry educational credentials and rigid dogmatic view of complex issues. It’s a recipe for disaster.
But from a stategic point of view, here’s where she sunk her own ship. She was essentially the Right’s Barack Obama; a fresh, handsome, energizing new face, at a time when it was sorely needed. Had she the sense to realize that she wasn’t quite ready for the job she was applying for, she’d have followed the same path as Senator Obama: Make a big splash at the party’s convention (which she clearly did), build a groundswell movement, use the next two or three years to study up on the big issues and prepare for the national spotlight, and come out guns blazing in the following election.
Instead, she delivered a cock-sure spitfire performance that devolved into a circus sideshow, when she demonstrated a startling lack of dexterity in handling the media (and herself), and severely damaged her brand in the eyes of those whose support she most need - moderate swing voters. As far as her political future, she’s got a lot of toothpaste to squeeze back into the tube, so to speak. I don’t see her overcoming the ugly first impression that she made in last year’s election. I could be wrong, but I just don’t see it.
“she didn’t know that she wasn’t ready for the big time.”
Bingo. Good post.
