Paint chip on new bike

i got a new bike this week and completed a 5.5 hour ride today. i usually clean my bike once a week after the long ride and today was no exception. please tell me this happens to all bikes cause it is driving me crazy. as i carefully removed the rear tire the cassette hit the rear fork (at the end were the skewers run through) and chipped a small piece of paint. yes i did it carefully, but damaging your new bike is a worse feeling than getting a scratch on your new car. my old ride had chips in this area as well and i assume it is inevitable that you will scratch the paint in this area when repeatedly removing your tire, but hearing so from others would make me feel better.

yeah…i got my felt DA the other day… Hadn’t even ridden it at all besides 0.15 miles, but it had been in and out of the shop and to the felt dealer and back because of problems and when i finally got it back it had a lot of scratches and chipped paint all over the dropouts… it upset me, but what could I say? I want a whole new frame just because of a few chips… i learned to live with it, for you you could put some clear nail polish on it if it makes you feel better…

DUDE!
Quit your whining and Just ride the bike!
HTFU!

thanks for the sympathetic reply. perhaps you get your frames for free so it doesn’t bother you as much. that being said, you are probably right…better not to sweat the small stuff.

by the way, what does HTFU mean?

Harden the fuck up, supposedly termed by this dirtbag:

there’s your hero, boys

Actually, if you take a look here (link) it’s pretty much right on the money!

that was pretty good - I assumed he was an american chopper wannabe. But hey; if he’s making fun of them, all the better

I hate it when that happens. That’s one reason I love my titanium bike, even though titanium is passe.

I agree.

Go out and put a second scratch on it, then each subsequent one won’t feel bad. Just kidding. But it happens–If you don’t want it scratched, put it in your closet and don’t ride it.

When I got my bike back from custom paint, it came with a little card titled:

How to care for your paint job:

  1. To keep your newly custom painted bike in mint condition, carefully mount it on the wall, dust it periodically and point to it whenever you have company.

  2. If you want to use your bike…
