Pain in hip and adductor?!

Hello all. Wondering if anyone can help me out here. I’ve been suffering alot: discomfort, tightness, and general pain in the lower part of my left glute, behind the hipbone. Also, the left abductor is giving me fits too. This has been a problem since about 4weeks out from IM Brazil. I’ve curtailed training significantly, adopted Yoga, been to an ART (stretch/deep tissue massage)specialist…all to no avail. Anyone out there experienced anything like this?

You can give this a try.

Keith,

I have the exact same symptoms. I just went to the doc last thursday after dealing with this pain for the past year. Its been on and off, more off than on if I stay away from the running. My plans for the offseason was to hit the running hard, but this is impossible with my current injury. The doctor diagnosed it as adductor tendinitis, but ofcourse this was not a sports doc. I tried to explain my injury as much as possible, but I still felt that he did not input all the symptoms into his diagnosis, hence tendinitis. I’m not sure what it is. Originally I thought piriformis, which it could be, but I that’s just matching symptoms. I’m planning to go back in a couple weeks and my doc will have to come up with a different answer.

I am now taking a full month to recovery with no weight bear activity. I’m doing some light core work and lite stretching, but nothing that involves running or cycling. I competed this summer with this pain, and did pretty well. It did not lead to any major injuries or worsen. BUT, that was my risk on my body.

Let me know if you find out any further details. I am interested in a outside opinions. Thanks and good luck to you.

Thanks for the link. I think it’s periformis. Done all those treatments less the dowel trick.

For me, I think the adductor problem was caused due to some sort of overcompensation in reaction to periformis. I’m almost sure of it. I think the periformis problem might be due to a peddle issue. I do notice that I’m always pushing my left foot up and out (at about the 10 o’clock spot) when cycling. It’s as if I can’t get my leg quite wide enough. I use look peddles w/red cleats. I’m guessing that this periformis pain is coming up the IT from my foot.

What did your doc suggest for the tedonitis? Ice…I hope not, not down there anyway.

Keith

Hope you don’t mind that I jump in here, but I had the same thing with my left hip. I ended up with a Chiropractor who specialized in ART. Between him and a very aggressive massage therapist, I finally got rid of it after 9 months. It feels great to be able to run without pain!

If you have any pain at all that seems to be coming from the joint do get some x-rays, you do want to eliminate the possibility of osteaoarthritis. I also used to get pain in the same area and it appeared to be brought on by remaining seated on the bike for too long, so getting out of the saddle occasionally seemed to be enough to get rid of it.
