Packing 2014 Trek SC 9 series

So I just finished putting together my new SC. But after sitting down appreciating its beauty, I started thinking to myself…how I’m I going to pack this thing for traveling without messing up the front end.

Has anyone try this yet? What’s the best way to pack this bike for traveling?

Appreciate the input!

I recently bought a Bkind Helium. All I need to do is remove the base bar from the stem and strap it to the side of the bike. Pretty straight forward, at least on the 2012 model.

I’m going to be packing up my SC 7.5 (same geometry as the 9-series, just a lesser grade carbon) this weekend, so I was talking to the mechanics at my LBS (Village Cycle on Wells St in Chicago - huge shout out to them!) about it. There are 3 bolts that hold the base bars and the aerobars to the stem. If you remove those 3, the whole front end comes free. I’ve also found that removing the plastic cable cover creates a little more slack in the cables (and you won’t break the cover).

The aero bars seem to dangle freely (pardon the visual that that phrase may create), it’s the base bars that don’t have a lot of slack. I’m going to stuff as much padding in there as possible and strap down the base bars as tightly as possible so that nothing shifts around. If you’re interested, I can post a few photos this weekend of the process (and maybe get some critiques on my packing process as well  )

My travel bag (pika packworks) requires that the bike rests on the bottom bracket, so I’ll also be removing the speed fin. I think the rear brake will be fine sitting on 4 inches of foam (and wrapped up, obviously)

I’ll take a look to see if they are similar. Hopefully they are so that it can be as simple as yours.

Thanks for the input.

That would be great if you can put some pics up. For some reason I can recall that much slack from the cables in order to hang the basebar freely. Thanks for the feedback.
