If you were doing a standard duathlon (10km 40km 5km) on a Saturday then an Olympic on the Sunday (Let’s say you HAD to do both) how would you pace them to get the best overall results in both?
Or would you take one easy to save yourself for the other?
I’m a 35-36 min standalone 10km runner and ride an olympic 40km in 1:01-1:03.
Any tips? It’ll actually be me first Du!!
It depends on your ability to handle two hard days in a row at the moment. (Early in the season, you probably alternate hard and easy training days, later on you might string two (sometimes even three) hard days without any problem.)
If you’re ready to cope with two hard days… just go for broke and see what happens the second day: a good opportunity to learn about yourself! You might want to spin and swim some (say 30-45 minutes total) in the afternoon to improve recovery.
Your first duathlon, eh? The consensus strategy is to run the first 10 km as if it were a standalone race except that you won’t sprint at the end. For the following two legs draw on your past experience in triathlon.
Good luck with the races.
I would go all out both days.
life is short, don’t be a wuss.
obree broke the hour record the day after failing to break it.
