Pacific Grove Tri

I will be racing this weekend in Pacific Grove and was wondering if anyone else plans on racing at this event? Most of my races have been in warmer areas so with the colder water (~59°) and the air temp forecasted to be ~50°, what do you plan on wearing after the swim? Will I be warm enough just wearing tri shorts and race top? I am a little concerned about being cold on the bike, especially coming out of T1. Any input is greatly appreciated.

In my experience (which is just for me, obviously), what got cold were my feet. So very cold. I’d recommend toe covers and a beanie under your bike helmet.

I find that if I keep my head warm and my feet warm, then the rest of me is fine.

HTFU. That’s my plan at least. If your “racing”, you should be going hard enough that you’ll be warm; fingers and toes may be cold, but core will be fine. Too much time is lost putting on clothes in transition, just to lose more time on the bike due to those clothes flapping around, just to overheat on the run.

If your doing the race just to do it, thrown on a long sleeve jersey or jacket or armwarmers under the wetsuit works too. toe covers on the bike shoes work well and can be put on in advance with out any negative effect overall.

But your right, it’s gonna be COLD!!!

I will be “racing” so HTFU it is, except for my toasty little toe covers… Thanks for the advice.
