Pacific Crest half Q and roll call

who all is doing the 1/2?
i’ll be there wearing cal triathlon kit and riding a black specialized. i’ll also be using PC’s.

also, for anyone who has done the race before, how fast is the last part? will i need a higher gear than 53*12 at about 80 rpm for the 14 miles of downhill at the end of the bike leg?
thanks,
-brent

My fiancee is doing it. I have done it in years past. 53/12 is fine. You may be semi-spun out for about a minute on the steep section as you begin the descent, no big deal. Then you brake to make the right hand turn. The long cross road following will be fast, but not 40 mph fast. 53/12 will be plenty, you may even choose a smaller gear depending on wind direction etc. Lots of flat after you make the left. You’ll be in a smaller gear then as well. Going to be great race conditions. Have fun.

I’ll be there. Blue Yaqui Ocotillo-carbo. #44

While I’m sure you’ll go over 80 rpm at times on the descent, I doubt you’ll truly spin-out. If so, it will be briefly. As the previous poster responded, the steepest section is right after the summit. After you take the right turn it’s a more gradual descent. In the bars the whole way.

Good luck.

I’ll be there. 35-39 ag, blue/white P2k. Unlike my bike, I’m easy to pick out at 6’7" tall. Looks to be cooling off by the weekend.
