I just read that Armstrong is thinking about using a regular road bike for the main 62km TT of the Giro. Do you think that this might mean that we WON’T see the P4 raced during this race? I wonder if Cervelo Test Team will use the P4 during the big time trial?
Wow … thanks for that link. That really should be a fun stage to watch and also fun to see how all the teams and riders improvise. Maybe we’ll see some interesting hybridized TT/road machines.
I’m with you on the Paris-Nice thing. I’ve not been too happy with Cycling.tv over the years, but the live feeds seem to be working for P-N and the racing has been superb.
.
how exactly would you do that, considering the variables of tt bikes, road bikes, bike handling ability (if you read the article they noted how technical the course is) power profiles, position, climber vs. tter, etc. it would give you useful data on par with the kona bike count.
if the set of road bike guys outperform the tt bike guys compared to historical performances
we might conclude that the “aero always wins” crowd isn’t entirely right
and if the tt bike guys outperform relative to historical performances, we might conclude the “aero always wins” crowd is mostly right.
if they do about the same, we might conclude the “its not about the bike” crowd is mostly right
=)

the hardcore tters might still use their tt bikes. that’s a really long time trial tho, geez. there might be a P4 mixed in their somewhere. who knows. i saw one today at richardson bike mart. it was only like halfway built up with no crank or cassette and no tires, but it looked pretty sweet with the zipp vukas on it and some 08 zipp 1080s. i cant wait to see it in action at TDF, if not giro
