P3C where is it built?

does anyone really know where they are being built ,am looking to buy one and have been told several different countries.thanks
.

Does where it’s built change it’s quality???

Taiwan.

I haven’t seen any indication what the country of origin is.

Tom, you want us to believe that you don’t know?

I’d guess 80%+ of carbon-anything is coming from Taiwan or there abouts.

JB

no but if you pay for a BMW you pay for the quality that has been coming out of a company in a certain country.I would not pay as much for a bmw if it was built in China.Thats just me though.

I wouldn’t pay as much if it was made in Georgia
.

So how is that South Carolina made BMW quality? Or the Hungary made Porsche? or the US made Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Mercedes-Benz? or the Mexico made VW, Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Chrysler?

You can find any of these vehicles at your local dealer.

I am sure that quality products can be made in any country in the world but when you are buying a new product it is nice to go with what is proven. If they had been making them for years without problem then it is not a risk.Would you get a quote to put in a 50 k kitchen with out any proof of their previous work ? Not me.

What if the quality was the same (or better), but the end product was cheaper.

JB

if it was proven i would buy it.

Tom, doesn’t it say somewhere on the frame or paperwork, “made in blankety-blank”?

I think by US law, it is supposed to…

Exactly. If it were Taiwanese I supposed it would have said so on the box. It didn’t.

If it’s not made in the US, then by law, it needs to say "Made in " somewhere on the box.

EDIT

Caveat: I think that there are some provisions in NAFTA that don’t require marking the country of origin… so if it’s made in Mexico or Canada, there might not be a requirement that it be labeled with the country of origin.

I work for a tech company in Nor Cal and know that we have to ID COO (country of origin) for not only the final product but all lower level parts. Let me tell you it is a royal pain in the ass given the global supply chain in the tech world and the fact that our BOM’s go nearly 10 levels. It is always required to be documented in shipping documentation to clear customs but what you receive may not show it if the customs agent for the shipper didn’t forward it along or bill of lading not included.

Can someone forward this message to Trek? Oh…and I hope it is Taiwan…if it is US made Gerard is taking a 30% loss on each frame paying for over priced US labor…

This makes no sense. Taiwan has been making carbon bikes for years, and probably makes more than any country now. In fact if it was built in the US you might have to wonder about the proven track record (given so many fewer carbon bikes are made by here - and several of those US mfgs. wouldn’t be interested in making a bike for Cervelo (ie Trek)).

Not that I have any reason to think a P3C is built in Taiwan, but I definitely have no reason to believe a North American made P3C would be better quality than if it were made in Taiwan. What American made “anything” is better quality than that made in Asia - there are probably some examples that are more a reflection of individual companies and less a reflection of the country in which they happen have a plant.

Just keep us kitchen guy’s out of this muck. This looks like a loser thread.

Dirt Stick foot in mouth now thread.
