Does anyone here use the rear hole on the seat post? I have always used the front, but have had some fit issues and been trying the rear hole lately. seems like a better fit. now i am not sure if i need to size down a frame. Thoughts?
If you’ve moving the saddle back with out moving the bars, you are effectivley making the top tube longer (increasing the reach). If that’s the case maybe you need a larger frame, not a smaller one? If you go to a smaller frame you are going to have to put the saddle even further back or use a longer stem to get the same reach you have now. In any case, there’s nothing wrong with running the existing frame in the rear saddle setting if you’re comfortable there.
Thanks man. I have gone to a shorter stem to keep the reach the same. I am trying to fix a hip problem I think cme from being too far forward. Muscle imbalance.
I had a professional BG fit done recently; we moved the seat post up 3.5 cm and the seat 6cm back and to the back hole. The frame size is 51 with a fizik arione, 165mm crank arms and a 70 mm no rise stem, slammed. I am 5’6" and my hip angle is now between 110-118 degrees depending on stack height- which I keep slammed. I had initial concerns with such a drastic overall change, and I wish I had power numbers to compare pre-fit but I feel very good.
My take on that rear seat post position is that it is only for riders who need to make the UCI setback rule. End of story. Or you are on the wrong size bike, but changing setback to compensate is the wrong approach.
i feel better too. moved it to the back hole and because it is a ISM saddle, i moved it back on the rails because you actually sit on the front half of the seat. But, i did have to lower my saddle. I am 5’9 on a 54 with saddle height of 72cm. Fit has always been a problem for me. hope this works. i rode sunday and felt really good.
