P2SL Question

In the P2 is there a “correct” position for the back wheel? Should it be pushed as close to the frame as possible, or should there be some daylight between the rubber and the frame?

I can caution against getting it too close if you ever ride in wet conditions. Road Schmoo gets trapped in the cutout and you will end up with a lot of wheel rub. I had to take the wheel off and adjust mine on the road last month. Now I keep a bit of air there just to be on the safe side. I don’t want a small pebble to get picked up and get lodged back there causing a puncture.

ok…that makes sense…but does moving it change your chain tension and deraileur performance at all?

I moved it very slightly and didn’t notice a difference

.

The small amount of room that you are able to move the wheel in the dropouts will not effect your derrailluer or shifting at all. The adjustment is there so account for a variety of tire sizes. I believe that ICU states that there must be at least a credit card’s width between tire and frame, but I don’t know of any similar rules regarding Tri.

I think there could be a ton of deabte about how close the tire should or should not be, but iIMHO the most important thing is to get the wheel in while inflated at race pressure. If the wheel is a few lbs off, you could have rubbing, etc, when inflated properly.
