P2K tire problems

I changed the rear tire on my 6 week old P2K last night. The tire was a blue Kenda. Problem1: The tire had disintegrated and become gooey and I could scrap off bits with my finger nails after less than 40 hours of riding. Problem 2: the tire was easy to remove with my fingers. No tire iron required. As soon as it was deflated, it basically fell off the rim. Other than that, the bike is great. The max pressure I had run them was 105.

I had to put a new tube in the front tire on my wifes P2K 2 weeks ago. I didnt see anything unusual. The bike is about six months old.I dont know what brand of tire it has.I guess I could run down to the basement and see.

We have had several customers with problems with that Kenda tire. It is not of commensurate qulity to the rest of the bike. We have been replacing them with Continentals or Michelins for customers. One of our P2K customers had 7 flats on that tire in Curacao. I gave him free set on Contis and some tubes for his trouble with our apologies.

The newer P2K’s come with Vittoria Rubinos I believe, an enormous improvement. That tire (the Rubino) is quite nice.
