I have a great opportunity to get a new bike and have the choice between a Cervelo P2K or a Felt DA, my problem is that I am in love with both of them and can’t make a decision. I will be keeping my road bike for group rides and what not. I do mainly short course right now, but am also training for long course next year. What do ya’ll think?
Personnelly, I like both bikes. The P2K is better in terms of fit flexibility–if you have test ridden either–but they are both damn nice bikes in terms of LCF, as “look cool factor”. As I am from Canada, and I am sure it is the same in the States, Cervelo’s are becoming super popular and a lot of people have them, so I would go with the FELT DA, because almost no one has them, just for a bit more LCF…I am pretty vain though.
The Cervelo has a wider fit band and may fit a broader range of rider proportions. The Cervelo’s tubing is certainly wind tunnel fast and has full internal cable routing. Cervelo’s also allow you to compete with a broken shoulder/collar bone in the same vein that OCLV bike cure cancer and win TdFs.
The Felt has a more prescribed fit. With a “fixed” seat angle and seat post offset, it may not work for those wishing to ride slacker than 74 effective degrees or steeper than 80. The Felt’s frame is considerable lighter, and the fork drops another 150 grams or so. The “road bike” like handling of the Felt inspires some, and frightens others. Cervelo’s set up “slack” are super super stable, like a grocery cart, completely hands off out and back 40k bike. Felt uses externally routed derailleur cables but an internally housed seat post clamp. Felt also uses a replacable derailleur hanger and Cervelo’s uses horizontal dropouts for seat tube rear wheel draft adjustment.
Lots of pluses on both frames. Some drawbacks in the eyes of some consumers. Your riding style, body dimensions, and preference for a particular handling characteristic may help point you down the elightened path.
