Below is an email I sent to Cervelo on fit. Can you please give me some guidance? THANKS!
Dear Cervelo,
Im sure you get bombarded with fit questions…so whats another?
Im set on purchasing a P2k but am unsure on size. I currently ride a 58cm Lemond Zurich (2001). The front end now has bullhorns but I cant get any lower then I already am (front end). This is my biggest concern in sizing a P2k for me. Here are the figures my bike fitter gave me for a road bike:
Size Center to Center: 58cm
Seat Height: 78.4
Crank Length: 175
Seat Angle: 73.5 (75 Tri)
Top Tube: 58
Stem: 120
Bar Size Center to Center: 42
Reach: 84 (82 Tri)
Saddle Bar Ration: 6.3 (8.3 Tri)
I dont agree with his “tri” figures as it left me stretched out with no power.
In comparing to my Zurich my instincts tell me I need a 56cm P2k. The dimensions match up to similarly on the 58cm p2k and the 58cm zurich. With this being said, I saw a post by Cervelo’s Gerard on slowtwitch stating that in many cases (paraphrasing here) if you ride a 58 road bike you’d need a 58 cervelo.
I know you cant say “This is exactly what you need” but can you give some direction?
I couldn’t tell by reading your post…how does your 58 fit? Are you saying it is a bit too large for you? I came from a 58cm road bike that was too big for me, and my 55cm P2K fits me perfectly.
Can you go to a bike shop and try one…or better yet, one of each (56 and 58)? I’m 6’1" and had a 58 P2K (now dearly departed thanks to a Mitsubishi Galante) and the head tube is sufficiently short that you can get down about as low as you want. It’s made to ride low…
For a road bike it fits just fine. Im saying that as a road bike tricked out to a tri bike its to big. I dont know how seat angles fit into my equation. Ive never ridden a true “steep” bike. Biggest concern of mine is being able to get lower on the front end.
I guess my question…in short is…if I ride a 58cm road bike will a 58cm P2k do it? Comparing geomtry from both websites I find that the P2k has some things that are longer (ie head tube length)
This should put you in the general ballpark and be fairly accurate as to what size you would likely need, but a better solution is to go to the bike store and check them out.
You are leggy, I’m longer in the torso. The top tube is longer on the P2K than most bikes so that size worked well with my longer torso. If you have a relatively short torso, then a 56 might be better so you aren’t too stretched out. Although I doubt that since there’s plenty of room to move the saddle forward (or use shorter stem) to shorten that distance as needed. I rode my 58 with a 110 mm stem the seat head clamp in the rear position with the saddle almost all of the way forward so there was a lot of room to adjust my position forward (by flipping the seatpost head to the forward position) if needed.
