P2 vs felt

Why is the Cervelo p2 $1,000 more than the felt b16? And is it worth it? Between the two! Please help!

Thanks!

Market pricing, materials and build.

And is it worth it?

Depends on your financial flexibility, and where you personally assign value.

Between the two! Please help!

If possible, try them both. If the B16 fits/feels better (at $1k less), then go with it. If the P2 fits/feels at least $1k better then go with it.

The P2 has a compact crank and the felt is mid-compact but they both have a FSA/Shimano 105 mixed drivetrain. The felt is a little fat at 20 pounds so that is a thing. I have been wholly unimpressed with Cervelo bikes (my friends ride a lot of Cervelo road and TT bikes) so I would almost always recommend whatever bike is not the Cervelo. Also, consider Scott and Fuji for high-quality low-cost bikes. If you are near a Q-Roo dealer, the low end Q-Roos are actually pretty good.

Thanks so much! Very helpful!

Yes, probably there are a $1000 worth of differences. Each $1.00 may not be important to you.
If you have the budget for the P2 consider the other $3000 options including the sleeker frame/fork/post/cockpit of the B12 as well as Shiv, Slice, and SC options.

Looking back at this I want to make sure that I say that these two bikes are not in the same class. Maybe the B14 or B12 is closer to the P2.

With that said, if the B16 was the right fit for me I would have no problem getting it and changing the whole front end to suit me and that would be a lot less than $1000. I have so many cranks at home I could just slap a new one on if for some reason I didn’t like the current one or I would put a P2max on it. At my size the bike doesn’t create a heck of a lot of drag

My direct experience is that when I compared the R3 against Trek, Specialized, and Orbea (there is a shop that actually has all of these brands under the same roof) the Cervelo was the least lively, most numb, and most expensive bike. It was so bad I asked the mechanics to look at it to make sure it wasn’t put together badly. When I was talking to the staff they admitted they like the Cervelo the least for value and dealer support. It could be that I am too heavy (180 pounds) for the Cervelo frame and I simply squash the life out of the frame. Cervelo has a loyal following so other people’s experiences must have been different.

My buddy bought a 2013 P3 which, to my surprise, was not full ultegra. Mostly this doesn’t bother me except when a manufacturer cheapens the brakes, I hate that. This same guy’s aero bars came apart at 25 mph (you might have seen this recall) which was very dangerous situation. Thing was, he had called Cervelo the week before and the insisted his bike was not affected by the recall. That was until he took apart the cockpit in his office and took pictures of the defective screws which were stripped after 4 months of riding. It took a couple of trips to the shop to fix all the clicking and squeaking the bike made after he bought it. A lot of that can be attributed to the bike builder and not necessarily the manufacturer and I accept that. However, with so many good bike brands out there, Giant, Specialized, Trek, Cannondale, to name a few, the issues I have seen that Cervelo owners have are not excusable.

I have a friend who is going to buy a TT bike and the three brands he is considering is Cervelo, Specialized, and Trek. The only reason the Cervelo is being considered is that the owner of a small shop promised him $1000 off retail and to replace all the cheapened non-ultegra components with ultegra components. That gives that particular Cervelo a huge price advantage over the other two. If that weren’t the case, he would not consider it based on his experience with his buddies who own Cervelos.
