P1 48cm? How small (U there Dan?)

I’m looking at the Cervelo P1 as one option on a list of potential new bikes for my wife. The challenge is that she is only about 1/2 inch over 5ft tall (67cm inseam roughly). Unfortanately as small as she is, there are very few bikes that she can even consider. The P1 is appealing because at least it has 650 wheels in the 48cm size but I still think it’s likely a tad too big.

Here’s a quote from Dan’s Review: “the P1’s smallest size is built in 650c, which makes this thankfully a rideable bike by those under 5’6”."

My question is, how much under 5’6" is reasonable? Any 48cm Cervelo P1 or P2SL owners out there?

I am 5’4" and I love mine. However my seat is jammed pretty much as far down as it can go. So I would definitely not buy it without making sure it will be small enough. I don’t think I have freakishly short legs, but they definitely weren’t designed for the runway so I don’t want to totally discourage you.

In another thread (here) Jordan (aka rappstar, aka Dan’s co-FIST instructor) recommended the Kestrel Airfoil Pro for a small woman - I don’t remember exactly but I think she was about your wife’s size.

I’d take Jordan’s recommendation to the bank pretty much any way of the week (except for that damned playlist.com that seems to be full of missing and broken links…)

Seriously though - that boy’s a smart kid.

Good point Khai, he is a smart cookie but I thought since he was banned for life I wasn’t allowed to read his advice any longer

Seriously though, I appreciate you pointing that out. That frame is on the short list but I had a little pause with the 76mm head tube, which I thought might be a touch low for Mrs. BK. Good news is that she could *almost *stand over it without being on her tip toes.

I need to get the old stack and reach spreadsheet going on to figure this out or maybe I just need to call Ves and make my life easier…

Thanks!

I’m 5’3" and ride a 48 p2sl. The seat posts roughly 3-4 inches for me.

Hope this helps.

I haven’t compared the geometries but Tracy is 5’1" and rides a 48cm P2 and has a really good fit/position.
