Looking for some advice on training and overtraining. In the past week or so, I competed in a sprint and an olympic distance race and went hard in both of them with good results. The following week, i decided to stay on track with my training program and go hard this week, even though i had the races (probably not a good idea). As the week went on, i feel like ive lost alot of power in my cycling and getting some knee pain. I have a 70.3 race july 22nd in california. How can i get the most out of my training in the next 2 weeks without injuring myself and still get a decent time in the race? ANY advice would be terrific. thanks!
Evan
Evan, wiser & far more experienced minds than mine will certainly chime in soon enough, but the short answer is: Easy week, then resume normal training.
If you don’t have a Tri coach, GET ONE. Barring that, find a Tri club or Tri shop (local running or bike shop) & find somebody with experience to get some quality feedback.
Pushing past your limits is fine, as long as you give yourself a chance to recover from it. That’s how you grow!
My $0.02.

thanks for the input!
ease off for a few days, then see how you are feeling. My other question would be what does you power meter say? does it say you’ve lost power or do you just feel like you’ve lost power? Feelings = over-rated (although my therapist might say different), data that shows you lost power - Priceless!
You have plenty of time before the race on the 22 so I’d not worry if I was coaching you (except for the knee pain)
no power meter (poor grad student), but my legs dont respond as well right now when i push it. A couple easy days are what ive prescribed. thanks for you help
ok, so your legs are telling you to rest. you raced back to back and stayed on it. hello! you need a recovery week!!!
also, in time of rest your body grows.
trying to cram all you can in training for the next 2 weeks aren’t going to guarantee you a successful 1/2. this is not an exam, fitness requires time and build up, which takes a long time! you have to make the cake!
so, the work for your half ironma race should have been done months ago. rest now so you can actually make the race and do well. if you are relying on the next 2 weeks to get you to the 1/2 distance…then…just remember what i already said.
as for getting a coach; i know plenty of kick ass fast folks who do not have one. perhaps become a better student of the sport so you can coach yourself now to successful races without injury.
