Oversized cranks

I am 6’6" and have a 38" inseam. Anyone have an opinion regarding the merits of my ordering up a pair of 203mm cranks? I have been told that the only that will cost me more is my rehab bill in order to have my knees put back together. Yet, I have heard conflicting reports from what appear to be credible sources. Thanks for the info.

Go for it! Imagine the leverage on those suckers! Don´t forget to get chainrings to match, a 58 will take you places…

Dare I reply? Am I being “put on”? Since I can have stuff machined to whatever size I want, why not a 60?

By all means, go with the 60! Just don´t ride it in the 11 or 12 all that much.

And watch out for that back meanwhile… Good stretching and strengthening is crucial when using that kind of leverage

I’m 6-3 with a 37" inseam. I ride 180’s and have always wanted to try a longer crank. But I ride Rotor Cranks and they don’t make anything longer then 180’s.

There was a post about a guy who got the Lennard Zinn , custom cranks 205 - 210 mm

He has all the formulas online. 6’6" guy like you and I need a 205 -210 mm set. The only problem is you almost need a custom frame to get the ground clearance.

This guy thought 210 mm was a bit long; he figures 200 / 195 would be dead nuts on. I am very close too chopping up some cheap group Campy cranks to make a test crank.

He said he felt more powerful, and climbing improved greatly. Let me search for the email . Here this guy , bigclyde , write a personal message to him.

Exactly!

My concern is not so much ground clearance, since I am just talking about putting them on my tri-bike…my real concern is whether the fact that my knees are in back of the point where I need to going straight down with the power, will put added stress on my knees such that I will get hurt over time. All of your comments are really helpful to me… Thanks.

They have done some ergonomics studies. You wont screw up your knees.
Short guys have used 180s , for years with no troubles. Seat position will change, cadence will get slower.

The goal is to get the most power to the chain ring, spinning the best diameter for your legs. A Forward off set on the seat post & longer stem should get you in a good fit, Write the guy with the 210 cranks or look at the Zinn website and post your questions. He has built more than a few large crank specialty bikes

Thanks, I’m going to do just that…appreciate your input…
