I know we have posted about this before, but I was very excited about the DVD debut of the Overcoming DVD on the Team-CSC webiste. However, I read the fine print of the posting and it says it will not be formatted for US/Canandian DVD players. Anyone know if it will be formatted into the US format eventually. Or, does anyone know if it will play on a laptop using a codec or some solution like that?
you can change the format settings on your computer up to a certain number of times. Mine allows 5 changes. I have already changed a couple times from travel to and from Europe. I would be willing to change again (and back) if I could figure a way to copy/burn it on to a US formatted disc.
Does anyone know if this is possible or how to go about doing it?
World Cycling Productions are advertising it so I would imagine they would not be selling a version incompatible with N American players.
They are…I ordered it, then just received an email saying it won’t work with U.S. DVD players, so they cancelled the order.
If you have a DVD burner, you can get software to rip the DVD, remove the encoding and regional settings, and then reburn it to watch on your DVD player. If you have a mac I can let you know some programs to use.
You will still need to change the regional setting on your computer.
If someone sends me a DVD I will make copies…and roadwarrior, I would need to know the name of that software to use…I presume its shareware?
For Mac I use DVDBackup to copy the movie and remove encryption and region encoding. I believe it’s shareware. If the DVD is single layer then you don’t need compression. I then use DVDImager (shareware) to get a disk image that you can burn using Disc Utility. If the movie is dual layer you need a utility like DVD2OneX, which is not shareware, to compress it. Of course if you have a dual layer burner you don’t need to worry.
For PC I believe there are non-shareware software packages that do all of the above for you.

Do they mean it will be only PAL, i.e. for the European TV’s?
I have a new powerbook 17inch.
will burn dvd’s but not dual layers.
but I do have cases for dvds so someone could send me their Euro copy and I could make a US copy…would just need the DVD.
For mac I would also reccomend you look at
they have a ahreware DVD ripper which works well

DVD Shrink.
It’s the best. Freeware, too. The official site is gone, but I found this download link:

" I read the fine print of the posting and it says it will not be formatted for US/Canandian DVD players"
From the website it sounds like it is only formatted for Region 2. If you have a multi-region DVD player you should have no problem.

Really? I pre-ordered it in July and haven’t heard anything from them.
I received this email from kp@riis-cycling.com (Kim Plesner):
"We have just learned that the overcoming DVD we sell is only formated to Western Europe, South Africa and Japan, but not US, Canada, Australia, etc. worldcycling.com has the rights for the American market. So we have to cancel your order in the Team CSC webshop.
Sorry!
Kind regards"
I’d try writing to her about it. I placed my order about 2-3 weeks ago.
its for PC not mac.

I think this is your problem. If you want the USA region code/NTSC format DVD, you must order through worldcycling.com. They are the USA distributors.
Haim
They’ll sometimes delay releasing DVDs so they can wait for enough pre-orders so that they can order in quantity.
DVD Shrink doesn’t really get good results when you have to compress a lot. The best is DVD Rebuilder with multiple passes of Cinemacraft Encoder.
