Over trained or peaking. I'm worried

I am training for the Muncie Endurathon 1/2 IM on the 17th. Over the past weekend my scheduled peaked with 18 hrs for the week. I am down to 15 hrs this week.

During my swim workout last night I was out of breath. I just couldn’t get in enough air, especially during drill work. I was OK with the quick 100 m sets, but still felt tired.

This morning I had a 60 min Lactate Threshold run. My LT is 167. My legs were a little sore from the weekend, but still I couldn’t get my HR up. It topped at 160 and was mostly in the 150s. I was pushing my self, my legs were there, but I couldn’t my HR up.

Am I peaking or overtrained? Is there need to worry?

Thanks in advance.

That sounds like you’re slightly overtrained. Take a couple easy or off days, 3-4 days of peak/tempo sort of work with modest volume, then 3-4 days taper with shorter sessions including a few minutes of intensity.

I can’t get my HR up if I try to do back to back high intensity workouts. Doesn’t mean I’m overtrained, just not recovered. Try an easy day.

Your too young to be fatigued! I had same problem over the weekend, went for long ride on saturday, felt like my legs where made of lead, couldnt climb worth crap. I decided to rest on Sunday, by Monday I felt alot better and was able to to 18+ mile run even with a fast last 3 miles > hottie rabbit in front of me! You probably just need a little rest or bring it down a notch.

If you are a guy check how much your beard grows vs. normal over the weekend. A lot = peaking; not much = overcooked.

(Because I find myself doing the same thing I have a theory that the cycling tradition of not shaving before an important race has nothing to do with saving energy but is a subconscious attempt to reverse the chain of causality on form and beard growth)

I have never found my HR a very good indicator of being cooked in my own juices. If I over reach a little it will not come up but if I am really over the edge it is pretty normal - I just can’t do anything with it.
