Easter bump…
hey, I had the same problem with my Cervelo P3-sl (alum) and the EC90 Aero fork. When you brake and try to turn the wheel it scrapes but when it is not under load it clears. I just took it off and went back to my old setup.
Per John Cobb, take that brake off and put one back in the front of the fork. A rear mounted brake catches air off the spinning front wheel and creates more drag than a conventionally mounted front brake.

Interesting. I got one of these a couple of months ago but haven’t put it on yet.

If anyone’s still watching this thread, would love a reference to the above from John Cobb. In particular, I wonder if his observation holds true for all forks.
I have an Oval brake mounted inside the fork on my Aegis Zaero. The Zaero also came with the Oval JetStream fork. I *really *dislike they way the brakes don’t have a quick release, and can’t imagine why this was omitted. Can’t be because of weight, as they’re already ridiculously heavy. But I digress. The lack of the quick release has caused me endless problems when doing a quick wheel change, even with 21mm tires which I only run on racing wheels.
Any suggestions on what to replace this brake with? And should I stick with behind the fork, or based on Cobb’s observation switch to the front?
Thanks much!
A few other notes on these brakes:
-the cable routing is crap
-they arent brakes, they are “gentle slower downers”
-they have no quick release thing to open up
-they are surprisingly hard to adjust.
-the cable clamp widget that locks the cable to the break caliper is incredibly badly designed and brakes really easily if you over tighten it, and slides really easy if you undertighten it.
-they dont really fit on gurus very well at all
If I recall, at Fistapalooza he said that the brake back there disturbs the are coming off the back of the fork and causes turbulence (and thus drag).
He seems to like having the brake cable out of the air stream and out in front of the headtube.
I agree with everything clyde_s_dale said about why these things suck. But what should I replace them with? Is there anything tricky about mounting on the front of the JetStream fork?
docfuel, thanks for the reference. Cable down the head tube makes all kinds of sense, but I’m not sure it’s worth the trouble for a mere mortal. But I do remember having that kind of setup eons ago with center-pull brakes.
Tom A. has a few posts on this. Enter his user name and then search aerobrake.
He uses an adjustable cable hanger and runs the cable to a cable straddle (or whatever they are called.) He then put a bit of cable across and uses it like a center-pull brake. This is my next project.
