Outside Mag interview with LA -dig at Lemond

I was at the dentist yesterday and read the interview with LA and was a little suprised at his response to the question about what he will do when he is done. I apologize I don’t have the exact quote but in essence he said regardless of what he did (he did say no triathlons though) that he would not put on 40lbs like Lemond. Then when the interviewer asked hime about his statement he said he thought about it before he said it.

What is the point? You are about to leave the sport as an icon at the top of the game and you are still throwing playground insults in interviews, not to mention against people who have long sinced retired. I am not a LA hater or a really on the LA bandwagon either but just wonder what benefit he gets from this type of statement. I would admire him more if he would just let his wins and record speak.

likewise, what does Lemond stand to gain by publicly accusing L.A. of doping?

clearly, there is bad blood between the 2 for whatever reason. i think it’s a tit for tat excahnge at this point.

What is the point?

Because Lance making fun of that fatass is funny!

I haven’t really been paying attention, but it seems like every other time I see either of those guys on TV they are throwing barbs at each other. It’s that whole “I’m the man”, no your not, “I’m the man”. “Oh yeah?” …“Yeah”.

Too bad Armstrong is clearly the man.

I was watching “Fearless” on OLN last weekend. There was a shot of LeMond walking to his airplane. At that same second my wife came in the room.

In perfect innocence, Donna asked, “Oh. Is this a show about what the hockey players were doing during the lockout?”

I could only reply with “Yep.”

Lance simply said he would not be putting on the lbs in retirement like Lemond. Not much of an insult as Lemond basically said that Lance was doping and there is no way he could have captured 7 tour de France’s otherwise.

that he would not put on 40lbs like LeMond

Ah, so easy to say, but another thing to DO. Lance is young and doesn’t have the long view. Let’s talk to Lance when he is 50 and then we’ll see how fit and lean he is. Lance is quite the talker (often to his own detriment), but his follow-through is not nearly as good. For example, if you read his first book (the only one I read), he focuses on two things a lot: the first is/was his vast love for his wife and the second is/was his determination to not raise his children as he was–in a ‘broken’ home. So far, he is not batting so well on either of those. So, based on his record, I would put good money on the fact that he will get just as “fat” as a sedentary male will when he stops putting in the long days on his bike. Nature always bats last.

Dont think his kid’s live in a broken home and the love for his wife is still strong… she dumped him.

This is simple … it’s easy to hate the guy on top. Reality is LA has 7 TDF victories and tomorrow he is the favorite for an 8.

Sit back and enjoy!

He “only” has 6 TDF victories, he is going for 7
.

yeah, and nevermind the fact that one of the reasons Lemond put on weight is because of some disease/genetic disorder…
apparently this disease isn’t part of the livestrong thing…

Greg and Lance are two very competitive racers so those types of barbs are going to get out.

The real question is…

In their prime, riding the same equipment, who would win?
Greg or Lance

I say Greg Lemond by a nose hair.

And you… ?

As others have hinted at, Lemond has thrown the first stones at LA, so the dig back is not unexpected. Makes for good copy as well…

Lance…if he was committed to it. He could be anyone ever at a given race…he’s got preparing down to a science. Yes…even Merckx…the difference is Merckx could beat him in all the other races fand could win every race of the year…Lance would win the one he wanted to win.

Who is this…Greg Lemond?
