U.S. President George W. Bush (3rd R with towel) returns to the White House in Washington May 11, 2005. Bush was not told for nearly an hour while he finished a bike ride about a breach in White House airspace on Wednesday that prompted the highest alert since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the White House said. Sounds like he has his staff well trained. I would have been pissed if my workouts were interrupted by stuff like this.
What sort of bike does he ride? I wonder if it matches his erstwhile presidential bid opponent’s Serotta? The picture almost looks like he gets changed in the parking lot like I do most after-work bike rides ![]()
Cheers
Barry
I believe he rides a Trek Fuel MTB. I am not aware of him riding the roads though.
I think you are right. W is more of a XTerra kinda guy.

Below is a picture of Bush’s Bike (as of last year) - $3,099

.
What the hell is the president doing biking at 11am on a Thursday? I want his job, way easier than mine.
Further proof that public office is the residence of mediocrity.
When you’re the boss…you work your own hours.
Or as I am finding out…when you’re the boss, you’re always working.
No kidding.
Bush doesn’t get a day off. He’s always being briefed, always got issues to monitor, and at any time can be interrupted and pulled back into work.
No thanks…
C’mon Brian, the guy’s life is a permanent vacation…they just tell him when something big happens and what to say when he gets fed questions at “press conferences” and then he can get back to clearing brush, playing golf and riding his bike.
He is not known as a guy who burns the midnight oil.
the guy’s life is a permanent vacation…
He’s managing to get a lot done (or screw up a lot of stuff, if you prefer) for a guy who’s on permanent leave.
Gee…I’d hate to see your definition of someone who’s actually working.
Trying to revamp social security, oust a dictator and bring democracy to a middle eastern country, got rid of the taliban and brought elections to Afghanistan, effects of 9/11…
Some “vacation”.
the guy’s life is a permanent vacation…
He’s managing to get a lot done (or screw up a lot of stuff, if you prefer) for a guy who’s on permanent leave.
You really believe he’s in charge? calling the shots? drawing up the agenda? Planning foreign policy?
He couldn’t find Afghanistan on a map if you spotted him Pakistan, Iran and China.
Bush is a likeable guy who voters seem to be able to connect with. Cheney, Rove and the chickenhawks draw up the strategy and roll out Bush to sell it to the public. Other than that he doesn’t do too much…they like it that way. He’d screw things up if he got involved.
You really believe he’s in charge? calling the shots? drawing up the agenda? Planning foreign policy?
You keep telling yourself he’s as witless as he sounds, and you’ll keep losing to him. Consider that a tip from a neutral observer.
I’ve never lost to him.
Bush is as dumb as a fox. His greatest attribute is that he knows he ain’t very bright and he knows that he really doesn’t have the drive to read reams of policy papers so he lets his people do all the work and he reads the Cliff Note briefings. The guy has openly stated that he doesn’t even read a newspaper.
His handlers have him in a protective cocoon. All questions are vetted before they are asked, he does not conduct traditional White House press conferences incase someone asks him a surprise question, Helen Thomas has been banished and replaced by bogus “journalists” who work for Karl Rove.
He only really gets in trouble when he travels overseas and gets asked questions like the time in Ireland when a reporter asked him where the WMD were and he was stumped…the next day he pulled the plug on all interviews and the White House sent a letter of protest to the Irish Government complaining about the journalist.
Its not a closely guarded national secret; Bush doesn’t care much for the intricacies of policy and isn’t that well informed…nor does he particulary care to be.
“Bush is as dumb as a fox…His greatest attribute is that he knows he ain’t very bright”
Do you see the contradictory logic in the above?
“The guy has openly stated that he doesn’t even read a newspaper.”
He openly stated his does not read the New York Times. Do you blame him?
“e does not conduct traditional White House press conferences…”
He just had one last week or the week before.
Brian, Here are some more taxing things to add to Bush’s list.
–Launching wars without interrogating the evidence and creating an exit plan. Damn exhausting that is…
–Doing a half ass job in Afghanistan. That’s “hard work” too! (Just today protests against the US spread to 10 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces and into Pakistan).
–Hunting down bin laden “dead or alive.” More “hard work” and my how it is paying off. Bush, you deserve a 6 week vacay on tax payer money for that one.
–Giving the rich a further leg up by cutting their taxes. Man, you can feel the wrist cramping as he signs that legislation.
–Rolling back environmental protections but thinking hard enough to call it the “Clear Skies” Bill. Another wrist cramper.
When you think about it, thank goodness that Mr. Culture of Life is no longer the governor of Texas and doesn’t have to wear himself out signing all of these death sentences (no contradiction there, right?). He might not have the pep he needs to do such a fine job on all the fronts mentioned above.
Here is the unfortunate moral of the story: the more this guy is riding his little bike and on vacation, the better off this country is. We should start lobbying for an endless vacation for Shrub.
“Bush is as dumb as a fox…His greatest attribute is that he knows he ain’t very bright”
Do you see the contradictory logic in the above? No, he is aware of his limitations and does not try to extend himself beyond them. His limitations are his lack of intelligence, and lack of any real interest in widening his scope of knowledge or trying to learn anything new. In the world according to George he already knows everything worth knowing.
“The guy has openly stated that he doesn’t even read a newspaper.”
He openly stated his does not read the New York Times. Do you blame him? Incorrect, he told Brit Hume in a Fox interview that he does not read newspapers, the New York Times was not mentioned…and for the record I would expect my President to read one of the most widely read newspapers in the country regarless of what he thought of its editorial policy. In politics its always smart to know what the other guy is thinking.
“e does not conduct traditional White House press conferences…”
He just had one last week or the week before. No he didn’t. White House press conferences are a thing of the past, they have even changed the name to “briefings”. All questions are hand picked…heck even the so called journalists are hand picked by Karl Rove. Remeber the gay prostitute dude with the bogus internet news service? how the hell did he get White House credentials and the opportunity to question the President when Helen Thomas gets shown the door?
he is aware of his limitations and does not try to extend himself beyond them.
Sounds like a wise course of action, to me.
** His limitations are his lack of intelligence, and lack of any real interest in widening his scope of knowledge or trying to learn anything new.**
Clearly you have some insight into the man us regular folk lack. You must be in close contact with him on a regular basis to make an assumption like that, huh?
The larger point is, he’s effective at pushing his agenda through. It might make you feel better to say he’s just too stupid to have come up with the agenda himself, and he’s just a sock puppet for the gray gnomes, or whatever. But the reality of the situation is that his agenda is extraordinarily ambitious, and he’s succeeded pretty well at pushing it through so far. You can act as superior to the dolt as you like, but he’s the one driving the bus, and he’s running down people who think they’re on an oh-so elevated intellectual plane like they’re speed bumps. If you consider that evidence of his stupidity, I’d love to know what you think about his opposition. (Wait, don’t tell me- they’re too smart and sophisticated to be appreciated by the average idiot American, right?)
