Okay, lets see if this tinypic thing works for me…
This is Boomerang! She is a 2yr old? English Pointer that we adopted from the Humane Society last tuesday. We weren’t really planning on getting a dog, we were “just looking” and we instantly fell in love with her. She was found as a stray in a field when she was about 7months, adopted out for about 3weeks before being brought back, and she has been at the HS for a little over a year. She is the best dog, so cute and cuddly, points out all the birds and squirrels and rabbits…very intelligent, and highly trainable. She goes on a run with my girlfriend every morning, she’s a great training motivator. We are looking forward to getting her trained to run beside our mountain bikes. Our lives have taken a big turn this week, and we all love it. It’s amazing what 10-15k of walking a day can do for your training!!
congratulations on your new addition! she is beautiful. i’ll never understand how someone could adopt a dog and bring it back. i don’t get how anyone could leave that face behind - you must have been meant to be, that’s why she was still there.
it’s a wonderful thing you have done rescuing this lovely dog. she’ll appreciate you always.
I don’t know how any one could abondon her either, but in a way I’m glad they did so we could have her! They think an American hunter brought her up with his pack and either lost her/left her. Apparently English Pointers are a very rare breed up here in Canada, there’s only a couple of hundred in the country, so they don’t think she was bred here. We’re going for a hike today, the weather is beautiful. I’m starting to wonder what I used to do with my time, but I’m very glad that it is now getting filled with her love and companionship.
Ya, this is our first! This is actually a pretty big deal to me, committment wise. I was married for 7 years in a past life and wasn’t ready to commit to the raising of dog or child with her. Now, i have no real interest in the institution of marriage, but I am quite willing to commit the rest of my life to the care and well being of this dog, with my amazing girlfriend at my side. I told her the other day that this mutual commitment to Boomerang meant more to me than a ring and ceremony ever could.
YOu are right, pets do pick their parents, at least this one did. The second we saw her in her kennel, she came up to the gate, flopped on the ground and rolled over into “rub my belly” position. At that exact moment, we both knew she was coming home with us!
Nice dog! Isn’t it amazing how many good animals are abandoned by their “owners?”
Our terrier of 16 years passed away and we were looking for another dog. This is a link to a picture of “Bob” who we adopted. He’s about 5 years old and was “released” by his family of four years and returned to the breeder. He’s been a great dog! He barks at everything so his official name has been changed to “Bob Barker.”
That is a beautiful dog, Ian. Good on you for getting a resue dog and giving a new home to a dog that has suffered so much. They give you so much love and ask so little in return.
Thanks everbody!! We just got back from a wonderful hike along the bruce trail-Limehouse Area for the locals.
JK… totally agree with you, most bad dog behaviour is a direct result of poor owners. We are working on training her, and we have hired a trainer to work with us starting next week. She is very house trained already, and is going to the door when she really needs to go out. As long as we pay attention and pick up on the signals, she should never mess in the house.
so far she isn’t a chewer, so i’m not too worried about losing my S720 down her throat, but in reality, if i leave it where she can get it, then it’s my own fault. The funniest thing right now is that bicycles spook her like crazy! I think it will take some time before we are able to take her on mtn bike rides.
As for school in toronto, nope! I grew up in St. Catharines, went to Grantham and Governor Simcoe high schools. Why do you ask?
I knew an Ian Maclean in High School, and had a huge crush on him. Told him i liked him the last day of school and yadda yadda yadda never heard from him again.
Sorry to say it wasn’t me. I’m pretty sure that if a girl i knew in high school confessed to having a crush on me, i would have done something about it. I was always pretty shy in school about approaching girls, so when a girl approached me i was pretty much always game.
Do you still live in the Toronto area? We are moving up to Acton at the end of June. Looking forward to being in the country, where it is quite and the air is clean.
I adopted an English Pointer a few years back. He had been through a couple of homes… and ended up back with the breeder, who was about to put him down. My plan was take him only until I could find a home for him, but he ended up staying about 8 years until we had to put him down.
He was crazy - loved to run - but at the same time was the best family dog. When the family grew to include a couple of boys we would tell him every dog needs a boy and he’s lucky enough to have two - he’d wag his tail.
