Our Boy MONK Has Finished His First IM (IMFL)!

Didn’t do bad, either. So did his significant other. Not bad, considering he dropped 65lbs. since he started doing this sport earlier this year :-))

WAY TO GO MONK!!!

Splits mate… we need splits…

These are the stories that still motivate me the most after some 18 years in the sport. I love the great triathletes and their amazing performances…but when someone makes a decision to take up triathlon, sets a goal, especially a huge one like IM, and achieves it…these things remind me of the essence of why I do this sport. To me its about daring to dream of achieving something beyond what I know I can do, working to achieve it, and going for it on race day.

Congrats Monk…awesome!

Woohoo!!! Congratulations to both of them!!!

We want pics!

65lbs this year? DAMN. That’s even bigger than the IM finish, IMO.

Congrats on both dude, you’ve earned them.

Monk (50-54AG)

Swim: 1:22:22, Bike: 6:12:47, Run: 5:30:28

Great job, considering first year in the sport, and the weight loss. I predict good things for him, though he’s probably a ball of soreness right about now

Way to go Monk! You’re an inspiration to those of us who are new to the sport!!

this is too important to let sit on page 2

good job ol’ timer
.

Nice work Monk!!!

PS - the poor bastard missed the ST Elitist Snob cutoff of 13 hrs by a measly 5 mins.

(just kidding - and I am duly impressed, even if there may be those who are not. Not sure what is more impressive, the great result, or the 65 lbs, or C - all of the above.)

Out-f’n-standing work, good on ya!!!

After finishing my first IM saturday I applaud those who took more than 12 hours. They suffer much more than those who broke 10 hours. My hat is off to all of you.

S - the poor bastard missed the ST Elitist Snob cutoff of 13 hrs by a measly 5 mins.

I thought the ST Elitist Snob cutoff was 12 hours. Where are the cut-off times posted? Do you get a T-Shirt? If so, send one to Monk.

Way to go Monk.

So now it’s Miller time. I think an Ironman for a guy your size ought to be good for at least 10,000 Kcal. So let’s see, at 135 calories per beer, that’s…

IronMonk! Way to go, brother! Yeah, he gets it!

The poor sod. He’s probably still curled up in a ball of pain. Him and his significant other did the IM for the first time last Saturday. I had the chance to meet both of them when they came down to watch us at the GFT back on October 23rd. Great guy!! He hooked me up with a new 12-25 cassette (I showed up late with an 11-21, and couldn’t find a store that had the 12-25).

IronMonk! Sounds like the title to one of those Chow Yun-Fat chop-socky karate movies
