Do you ever feel like, man, can’t these people just get their shit together? The inability of folks to deliver anything on time astounds me. That and the fact that nobody even cares if stuff’s late anymore. (And no, I am not the one setting their schedules).
Do you work at my company??
I’m a project manager, and I have a plaque in my office that reads: “A lack of planning on your part does not necessarily constitute an emergency on ours.” It’s funny, but some days, all too true.
LOL - I rec’d a project today 6/15/05 and was given about 2 days to get it built. It’s been 2 weeks since we rec’d project request from customer…boss(es) been sitting on it for about 2 weeks.
“there is only 2 letters difference between STUD and STUPID.”
Yep, 3.146.
In the era of “Profits are up!” exclamations to shareholders, but “Do more with less!” rallies to employees around evaluation/raise time, what’s one to do? Personally, I went from badass to mediocre employee in the course of one 30 minute yearly evaluation and salary compensation discussion. The rewards for the extra time and energy are simply not there anymore (at least in my company, which employs about 40,000 and is very profitable).
You want to talk about getting shit together? Talk about those people leading the business. They’re stealing from the first floor to build the upper floors of a skyscraper.
Actually, it’s 3.14159. And then some, being an irrational number. Sorry, old math geek, had to chime in.
Clever, but 3.142 is more accurate than 3.146…in all actuality is closer to 3.1415926535897932 but that’s just an approximation.
Pie are squared? No pie are round, cornbread are squared.
If we were in the wild, they would have been killed and eaten by lions a long time ago. Take pleasure in that. So many of them should be canned, but you know what I’ve learned? It’s friggin impossible short of ‘something criminal’ to get someone dismissed. It simply is not worth it when HR is so concerned about litigation. Have a pain in the @** on staff who doesn’t pull their weight- 6 months minimum- verbal warning, documented written warning with 30-60 day performance plan, follow up to performance plan, follow up come-to-Jesus meeting, ‘are we sure’-HR meeting, etc…then court appearances for improper dismissal later…
Solution- make their life miserable with assignments or tape a $20 to your cube with a camera and see if they take the bait.
its just as well then, that most things in this world don’t actually need to be done in order to produce the end result.
Do you have the other project manager’s credo: “Nine women cannot make a baby in one month.”
As a technical developer we are often reminding the “do more with less” proclaiming senior managers of this fact.
LOL – in this particular case (and often) – it is my boss I’m complaining about! The lower folks on the totem pole at my company are the easier ones to work with.
Oh yes, been there too. Someone walks up behind you at 4 PM. “Uh, we need this by tomorrow (or better yet, Monday) morning.” “But I had dinner plans…” (or workout plans, whatever). Later you found out they knew three days ago about it.
At least at this company I can complain and push back, but there was so much coming at me at once I needed to vent unproductively. Several hours later, I’m still mad. So I’m hoping my long run will sort it out!
That is a really great one, thank you, I will add it to my repertoire. My particular problem is that I’m the one who gets hung out to dry when people don’t have their stuff ready (again, in this case, my boss).
