I own a business where we have done a major overhaul of our computer system. Now I’m left with 30 to 40 pieces of obsolete equipment (mostly old monitors but also some crapped out printers, keyboards etc). They are just sitting on a couple pallets right now as I don’t have the heart to fill up a landfill with this junk. This is real old crap and schools etc would not be interested. I looked into a company that will take it for recycling/disposal purposes but it will cost upwards of $1000 to do it. Don’t want to spend that kind of money. What to do? Time is running out and I need to reclaim the space. Thanks for any input.
There are many agencies that will take them off your hands, fix them up (clean the hard drive, etc.), and then donate them to developing countries or underprivileged families. I am not in your area but you might someone locally if you do a search. Please do not throw this stuff away. The mercury alone in the components is deadly to the environment.
good luck,
roert
You can look for a group like freegeek.org who recycles computers and often these rc’d 'puters wind up in the hands of “needy” folks. freegeek is located in PDX, but they might know somebody in MI.

Keep in mind that as a business owner you could be heavily fined for improper disposal of equipment. You should probably check the laws where you live but here are just a few links you may want to check
