OT - TV Advice

Alright … we are moving into a new house where part of the deal was a new TV. Unfortunately, the house we picked has a 40" by 49" (W x H) hole for a TV (my fault for not checking this out first). We’d like to be able to get HDTV and we cannot afford a 32" flat panel. So far it looks like there are a few directions to go … 40" Mitsu or Zenith projection TV Any 32" traditional (tube) HDTV — I found a JVC at the local BX for $599 and a Sony at Costco for $829 Almost any 36" tube HDTV — I found a Toshiba at Costco for $999 and a Sony at the local BX for $1239 Almost any 34" widescreen tube HDTV

I am not a big fan of the widescreen TV’s since for the foreseeable future we’ll be watching a lot of kid shows (two little guys under 5). I prefer the overall picture of the tube TVs since we watch more cable programming than anything else. So I guess my questions are: Is there any preference among the above TVs? Is there any advantage to the widescreen vs. “normal” aspect ratio? Am I a girly man for not going with the 40" (the biggest screen available)? Would I be giving up a lot to go with the cheapest option (32" JVC) and having an extra $600 for a treadmill in the basement vs. the Sony?

Many thanks, drn92
