I am going to be in the Miami area next week with some time to kill. Can you surf anywhere near Miami? Anywhere to take lessons or rent a board? How about renting/riding bikes?
Gracias!

Try Catch a Wave in Coconut Grove for boards. Not much surfing but wind surfing yes. 1-3 hours north of Miami is OK surfing. There is a wind surf rental place on Key Biscayne in Miami. Try Key Cycling also on Key Biscayne to rent bikes and also check out Bicycle and Fitness Store in South Miami for all tri gear.
I’m not a surfer, but I have seen people surfing in Miami Beach, close to Government Cut, the southern most part of the beach.
Technically speaking, if there are waves and you have a board, you can surf a spot. It may not be any good, and people will razz you about it I’m sure, but it can be done.
I used to surf Deerfield Beach and Hillsboro (my grandmom - God rest her soul - lived in Pompano)
There are waves in Miami but its hit or miss. This time of year through the summer tends to be pretty flat. Winter is when the swells come in with greater frequency. You might have luck driving up north. Usually if there is a swell anything north of West Palm Beach will get it. There are several surf shops on south beach. look them up in the phone book and ask them for the surf report. There is plenty to do in Miami even if there isnt surf so have a great time.
you can surf if there is enough wind . I lived on the beach up in delray about 2 hours north and in winter time we got some classic days, lots of wind slop but some epic days. The best website to checkout is www.shrimpcreole.com who updates daily but lives in fort lauderdale. you might get lucky if there is wind at this time of the year but we are starting the summer flat spell now. watch out for the sea lice too, itchy buggers
