Anyone watch this yesterday?
I watched the first hour and taped the rest, so I’ll have to watch it sometime this week. I’m hoping they did a good job covering the tragedy with Nigel.

I think they did a very good and very respectful job covering Nigel’s death and the subsequent effect on the rest of the race. The covereage in general of the whole race was pretty good, although it would have been nice if they had shown a little more of some of the other disciplines - they made it seem like it was exclusively kayaking and bike-whacking.

I agree, I particularly like how the tone of the broadcast changed to match the tone of the racers after Nigels death.
I also thought they did a nice job. The coverge of Nigle’s death really highlighted the comeraderie of the sport.
I saw coverage of one of the Eco-challenge races, I think on Discovery channel several years ago. They did an in-depth following of one team and the trials and tribulations they experienced during the race. They team was also wearing gear that allowed their heart rate and other physiological data to be gather. That was really cool! With this coverage I didn’t get a good feel for how truly challenging a race like this can be.
The Eco-Challenge coverage was several hours longer than this. If I remember correctly, they had it on for 5 straight days or something like that. Also, Mark Burnett was involved, so it had a reality TV feel to it. I’m not a fan at all of any of those reality TV shows, but I have to agree that the personal coverage of the teams was really interesting. Yesterday’s coverage was more like a regular sports show, IMO. Also, they didn’t have the team made up of 3 Brazilian women and 1 man to follow around. I think they did the entire race in bikini tops and hounded that poor guy the whole time!!

I was switching back and forward from this to the football and missed how the guy died…what happened?
the team was going down a gulley and nigel was the first one down. someone above him disloged a rock/boulder and he wasn’t able to get out of the way of it. the call for rescue was quickly negated so it must have been a pretty definite hit. i think they did a good job with the coverage.
