And the cool thing is that Wilander kind of predicted the outcome last night during the rain delay. McEnroe didn’t seem to believe him, but Wilander said that JJ defintiely had it in him to take out Roddick.
We’ve got the no1 in the world, so we’re not scared.
Seriously though, great performance by the swede dude. And Federer is not in the best shape at the moment, I don’t think he can pull it til the end, but if he does, that’s amazing, 3 grand slams in one year, the last to do it was…yep, Wilander, another swede.
personally (in terms of women’s tennis) I miss the days where players were mostly SILENT and didn’t scream like banshees at every point, I mean, come on, it’s totally unnecessary IMHO. IIRC it was Monica Seles who started the trend, I remember at one point while she was playing Steffi Graf that they wanted to put a scream-o-meter on or something because it was too distracting. Nowadays it seems nearly all women do it for some reason.
Definitely miss the good old Lendl/Edberg rivalry, was never a fan of Becker or Sampras myself (too much serve & volley, boooo-ring), thanks to ESPNC I sometimes can watch some good old matches (Borg/Lendl for example) and wonder just how strong those players could’ve been if they had access to modern rackets instead of those tiny wooden thingies…
