OT (sort of): Hercules in New York

“Sort of” because I watched it while riding rollers this morning. I think this was Arnold Schwartzenegger’s first movie when he came to the States, made in 1969 - several years before Conan or Pumping Iron. The movie’s title tells you all you need to know about the storyline. Arnold’s accent is at its incomprehensible best, as he sputters out mostly three or four-word lines.

“Ah Ahm Heahculeahs… No, lee-sahn to meah… Ah AHHM HEAHCULEAHS!!”

One of those rare movies that’s so campy, so BAD, that it was really quite funny. I should have rode the trainer instead - I nearly laughed myself off the side of the rollers a couple times.

I remember that one - I’m pretty sure he’s billed as “Arnold Strong”
.

great cinema

now Governor, who woulda thunk it?

IN the credits he’s listed as “Arnold Stang or Arnold Strong”. I guess they couldn’t decide on a stage name so they listed both.

There’s a scene where two of the gods are back on Olympus talking about Hercules, and one says to another, something like: “He’s so popular down there maybe they’ll make him President.”

Didja ever see the episode of “Streets of San Francisco” (Post-Michael Douglas) where Ah-nold plays a worker at Anchor brewery who kills a young photographer in a 'Roid Rage???

God I love TV Land!!!

I think they actually dubbed over his voice in that movie. He didn’t speak very good english, and couldn’t pronounce all the words correctly in the scenes, so after the movie shot, he re-recorded all the dialog and it was dubbed back over…or so I heard or read somewhere many years ago. Great movie though…he was HUGE back than.

I hadn’t heard that, interesting. There is a dubbed version with another actor reading the lines though; both that and the original “Arninglish” are on the DVD.

Ever seen the original US version of “Mad Max???”

The guy who did Mel’s voice used to do voice-overs on Gerry Anderson’s puppet spy shows (“Thunderbirds,” “Captain Scarlet,” etc.)
.

ahhh…yet another “must have” to add to the DVD collection. The “must have” list is growing quickly! Isn’t the trainier from Rocky in that movie too…back when he didn’t look ancient like he does in the “Grumpy Old Men” movies?

Yes, another classic.

In my opinion, old crappy movies are better than new crappy movies.
