OT: Normal

A car bomb exploded in Bagdad today. 24 children aged between 10 to 13 were killed, along with a US soldier. 18 more children and 2 soldiers were injured. It must be normal because I can’t find it on ST… or even cnn.com for that matter.

Let me assist you to the Lavender Room - it’s behind the door considered kind of light purple.

Go towards the light.

You mean this:

.

why do you do this?

i’ve heard you are such a nice and enjoyable person to be around, but here you come off like a real asshole. guess i don’t understand it is all.

carry on,

kittycat

I would guess that the perceived lack of coverage is because it is in a place of civil unrest (if not “technically” a warzone), and that is just a guess.

I agree this is Lavendar stuff but I also completely disagree with your entire premis that “just because this is a non english speaking country it doesn’t matter”

Fact is it’s not “News” no more than another shooting, rape, murder or drug deal is in the slums of a major city in the US. It may not be “Normal” but it certainly isn’t “new”. A bombing in London doesn’t happen everyday so it’s “new” thus it’s “News”. A bombing in Bagdad also certainly isn’t “normal” but it also isn’t “new” so it’s not “News”

~Matt

It’s not normal…it’s a travesty.

yes, it’s not new news. Dozens die in Iraq every day, hundreds on bad days. The question worth asking is why, but unfortunately that’s not interesting to the corporate media.

For the news on Iraq, a good place to start is:

Pretty much ends that discussion. It’s on cnn so it must be news. Anything else there SAC?

paulo you are off on this one… come on… think about it… you are not being fair.

Yeah, but how many LESS than in the past?

Why is he an asshole? I think he makes a valid and important point, albeit one better suited for the Lavendar Lounge.

Hundreds died in a train collision in Pakistan. How come you care enough about Iraqis to talk about it but not about Pakistainis?

here is a link to 194 stories, http://news.google.com/?ned=us&ncl=http://www.masnet.org/news.asp%3Fid%3D2609&hl=en
.

I’m with Kitty on this one. Drop it will you? Hasn’t this already been covered to the Nth degree on another thread? Come up with something constructive rather than revist this issue that gets everyone worked up.

well I think he is being unfair because he thinks we only cover something when it involves someone speaking english (see his previous post) so i am saying that because I don’t think that’s true at all. It was for the shock factor that made everyone talk about the bombing in london, just like the ones in madrid last year ( non english) He is unfair because most are digusted by the bombing in baghdad as well and yes, it is in the front page of cnn.com

Casey, you are confusing what editors see as news with important issues. You think what is important should be news but the medai sees revenue as the determining factor on what is news. People don’t want to listen to Rwanda or you would see stories on it but instead you get Jacko, shark attacks, women who decide to avoid weddings by running off, OJ, Lacey, and on and on.

There was a suicide bombing in Israel this morning by a 18 year old Islamic Jihad that killed 3 women and injured more and it isn’t really getting much attention either. You can’t assign importance to events based on the media coverage they get. To do so is silly.

Dear kittycat,

I fail to see the difference between calling me a real asshole and telling me that I’m “coming off like a real asshole”. As such, I believe your comment is out of line.

SAC, are you glad this happened? Why aren’t you expressing outrage at this happening? Instead, you’re upset at “westerners” because they’re not outraged.

I for one am outraged. But it isn’t my fault the media won’t cover this as much as a terrorist bombing in London.

I see no outrage towards the people who did this bombing from you, just a bitterness towards many on this board.

SAC…you made the statement that you can’t find it on CNN. And in actuality, it is…so what is your point?
