OK, gang, I need some help. I want to take my wife someplace special for our 20th wedding anniversary next year. I’m not having a lot of luck searching the internet, and I thought with such a diversity of folks on this forum, somebody would probably have good idea. Here’s sort of what I’m looking for:
-Someplace in the mountains (in the US) with lots of outdoor activities
-Prefer it to be somewhat isolated…
-Would prefer a couples only place (not a deal killer, though)
-Good food and massage (wife loves 'em) a must
Any thoughts? Thanks for any help you can provide…
www.freestoneinn.com - it meets all of your criteria. You will not be disappointed and there are other options for good dining within a 20 minute drive. Fly in to Seattle and drive (about 3 1/2 hours) one of the most scenic highways (North Cascades) in the world to the lodge.
“You know you are getting old when you see your father in the mirror.” anon.
I’m not sure were in the country you are and i’m going to assume that you are both fit people…how about a couple days hiking in Glacier National Park, there’s some fine places to stay, good food…you can day trip and come back for some romance etc…or you can hike the trails for a couple days, camp etc…
And i’m sure there’s many other places like this, just pick up a map or go online for national parks…
The Ahwahnee features Indian art and artifacts from the Meewok and Mono tribes, and other rare pieces of art throughout it’s public areas. Fireplaces in the lobby areas are 6 feet high and use real
Try Vista Verda ranch north of Steamboat Springs,Colorado. It’s a dude rance that is really swanky. All of the services you mentioned. You can get your own cabin, and partake or not of the other activities.
The down side is that they are offered on a weekly basis and that you pay for the upscale.
A 20th you would remember though.
On the more rustic side, you could check out the 10th Mountain Hut Association, and get an entire hut just for the two of you. The huts are usually a 2 -5 mile hike up into the mountains, you bring all your food, and sleeping gear, but kitchen tools are provided, as well as bedding. The ‘huts’ are really beautiful log cabins, and all of the locations are truly spectacular. There are many to choose from all over the middle part of the State. I have used them primarily in the Winter where we go out and ski tour for the day.
Another really great place is Dry Creek Valley in Northern, Ca. Great scenery, great wine and great biking. Beautiful weather. There are some nice spas near by also. No wine tasting fees as compared to Napa & Sonoma Valley.
Take your bride to Yosemite’s Ahwahnee. Need to make reservations soon. If you have the cash this is the place to go.
